About The Branch The Litigation and Dispute Resolution (LDR) Branch comprises about 60 legal practitioners and ~35 legal support staff.
The branch handles a diverse range of litigation and advisory matters, including personal injury claims, police civil claims, coronial inquests, vexatious litigant applications, tortious claims, defamation, post-sentence detention orders, judicial review, and matters involving the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act.
The Role As a Solicitor in the LDR Branch you will support and manage complex and sensitive litigation across a diverse range of cases and provide high-quality legal services to government clients.
Your Responsibilities Will Include Handling personal injury litigation (negligence and breach of statutory duty)
Addressing historical institutional abuse claims involving former minors and young persons in state care
Managing contempt of court and vexatious litigant claims
Working on matters under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997
Conducting judicial reviews, asset confiscation, coronial inquests, public liability cases, and subpoenas
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to support other streams of work within the branch to ensure a varied and enriching experience.
Skills And Experience Just-admitted or early-career Solicitor, or an experienced Solicitor seeking a change in career
Ability to review, manage, and conduct complex and sensitive proceedings in state courts and tribunals, with knowledge of civil procedure
Demonstrated ability to work on multiple complex files concurrently
Experience handling general personal injury matters and/or acting for insurers in civil litigation is highly regarded
Proven ability to provide oral and written advice on complex matters, with strong legal research and analysis
