The Organisation:

For more than 50 years, Centacare Community Services has been working in partnership with the community and all levels of Government. With a workforce of more than 3,000 as well as volunteers, Centacare responds to local needs from over 200 service sites, touching the lives of more than 100,000 people each year across Disability & Mental Health, Aged & home Care and Specialist Family Support Services.

The role:

We are currently seeking experienced Community Housing Officers to join our Emergency Housing team based in Hervey Bay on a full-time basis. You will ensure that we deliver a holistic, individualised, and empowering approach to supporting our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct thorough initial assessments for new clients entering the program and develop customised case plans.
- Continuously review and track progress and adapt case plans to align with evolving needs and client goals.
- Provide timely crisis support and referrals for appropriate support services.
- Collaborate with real estate personnel to advocate for client’s housing stability.
- Oversee ten residential properties, including inspections and entry/exit reports.
- Liaise with external agencies including Police, Child Safety, Corrections, Public Guardian, Youth Justice, and schools.
- Ensure coordinated, wraparound support for every client.
- Encourage life skills through chore charts, budgeting sessions, and daily structure.
- Assess when to handle matters internally vs. when to engage specialist services.

What We’re Looking For:

- Qualifications in Mental Health, Social Work, or Community Services preferred.
- Previous experience working with people who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness.
- Demonstrated understanding of the complex needs of marginalised people and the ability to effectively support clients with these needs.
- Proven experience in case management, ideally with vulnerable or high-needs populations.
- Strong crisis management and conflict resolution skills.
- Understanding of trauma-informed care and client-centred practice.
- Familiarity with property management within a social services context is an advantage.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a current driver’s license, blue card, criminal history check, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance and evidence of rights to work in Australia.
