The Role
We are on the lookout for a Design Assistant to join our First Retail (mainline) Accessories Design team. We are looking for a tenacious and detail-orientated individual who is eager to learn and contribute strongly to the continued success of our First Retail Accessories line. Reporting to our Lead Designer - Accessories and working closely with our Head of Design, you will work across all First Retail accessories categories including wallets, small accessories, belts, hats, umbrellas, and scarves, across both men's and women's ranges. You will be responsible for leather, hardware, and trim approvals, and communicating with offshore suppliers and assisting the Design team with briefing packs, tech sketches, material-boards, print artwork and hardware development. A key focus of this role is keeping reporting systems up to date including range overview documents as well as excel documents.
Key responsibilities include:
* Support the Design team across all product categories and stages of the design process
* Maintain accurate records for leather, hardware, trims, and design reporting systems
* Prepare presentations and samples for internal meetings
* Manage sample logistics, including DHL shipping and tracking
* Assist with tech packs and design briefs for handbags and small leather goods
* Track invoices and payments related to design and sampling
* Liaise with offshore suppliers on samples and material developments
* Manage timelines and deadlines across design and development stages
* Ensure product data accuracy (features, dimensions) and share with key teams
* Keep studio space tidy and samples organised daily
* Collaborate with internal teams including Production, Merchandising, and Marketing
* Ensure all work is on-brand with strong attention to detail
What we are looking for:
* Degree in Fashion, Design, or a related creative field
* 1+ year experience in accessories or handbag design
* Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Excel
* Strong organisational and time management skills
* Detail-oriented with excellent accuracy in data and documentation
* A collaborative, proactive, and solutions-focused mindset
* Confident communicator, comfortable working cross-functionally
