About the Role
As the Operational Safety Manager – VIC/SA for our Infrastructure business unit you will lead the implementation of HSE strategies and programs to build a strong safety culture, drive continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with all regulatory and industry standards.
Responsibilities
* Provide HSE direction and support to leadership teams and projects in the region
* Implement HSE strategies, systems and initiatives; report progress
* Deliver HSE training, compliance and improvement programs
* Drive consistency and continuous improvement across HSE practices
* Oversee rehabilitation and return‐to‐work processes
* Ensure strong HSE risk management capability and discipline
* Govern investigations of major incidents and preventative actions
* Monitor and report on HSE system performance and effectiveness
* Provide HSE input across tendering, planning and project delivery
* Manage HSE reporting, records and data‐driven insights
* Support broader business HSE initiatives
* Maintain compliance with legal, regulatory and company requirements
* Communicate HSE matters and improvement opportunities
* Review high‐risk work to ensure compliance with safe methods
What We Are Looking For
We're seeking an experienced HSE professional with a relevant bachelor's degree in Science, Safety, Environmental Management, Sustainability or a related discipline. Ideally, you will also hold postgraduate or industry‐recognised qualifications such as Safety, Environment, Project Management, Risk or Lead Auditor certifications.
You'll bring significant experience as an HSE practitioner within construction, heavy industry or other high‐risk environments. Your expertise will include audit management, project system implementation, and supporting a wide range of stakeholders—from frontline teams through to senior leaders.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong capability in monitoring, investigating and reporting on HSE performance, with a focus on continuous improvement and compliance. A sound working knowledge of Safety Management Systems (including ISO standards) is essential, along with the ability to identify risks, address non‐conformance, and drive best practice across all areas of the business.
