The Rural Financial Counselling Service NSW Central and Southern Region provides free, independent, and confidential financial counselling to farmers and regional communities, helping them build resilience and navigate difficult circumstances.

As RFCS NSW advances its 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, the organisation is focused on enhancing services, securing new programs, and strengthening organisational capability and credibility to better support the communities it serves.
To support this next phase, the Board is seeking two accomplished leaders to join its experienced and professional governance team.
The Opportunities Non-Executive Director – Communications
Provide strategic oversight across communications, stakeholder engagement, and organisational reputation, supporting RFCS NSW in positioning itself effectively with government, industry, clients and the broader community.
Non-Executive Director – Legal & Governance
Bring expert guidance across regulatory obligations, risk, and governance frameworks, helping the Board uphold the highest standards of accountability, integrity and organisational oversight.
The Contribution
Directors will fulfil the statutory and fiduciary duties of a Company Director, provide independent oversight of strategy and risk, and contribute constructively to Board deliberations while supporting the organisation's strategic objectives.
The Board is seeking senior leaders who bring strategic thinking, sound judgement, and the confidence to contribute at Board level. Previous board experience will be highly regarded.
In addition to core expertise in communications or legal and governance, experience in the following areas will be viewed favourably:
* Technology, digital or data governance
* Government relations and policy engagement
* Finance and financial literacy
* Business evaluation and strategic planning
An understanding of rural, agricultural or community-based environments is desirable.
Commitment
The Board meets six times per year in varying locations across their service area. Additional committee involvement as required. Preparation and active participation are expected. Travel is required.
