Employment Opportunity

We are looking for a Cyber Security Assistant Director to support the daily operations of our cyber security section and help safeguard the department's systems, assets and critical information. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Australian Government security regulations and frameworks, including the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), Information Security Manual (ISM), and Essential 8.

Under the guidance of the Information Technology Security Advisor (ITSA), this role will lead a small team and oversee the section's cyber security policy, strategy, and awareness capabilities. The successful candidate will have demonstrated strong leadership skills through effective task delegation and team management. They will provide expert advice and guidance on cyber security policies to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring best practices are followed and risks are managed effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

* Oversee, manage and monitor requests and queries assigned to the cyber security team through team mailboxes and service management tools.
* Collaborate with diverse teams to develop and continuously improve plans and processes that support the cyber security requirements of the division and department.
* Lead the development, implementation, and review of cyber security policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
* Drive initiatives to enhance cyber security awareness and education across the organisation, engaging with staff and stakeholders to promote a positive cyber security culture.
* Support the development, delivery and implementation of cyber security strategy initiatives.
* Represent cyber security in various divisional governance and technical forums ensuring cyber security is appropriately engaged and considered.
* Supporting the development, knowledge transfer and mentoring of junior cyber security staff.

Our ideal candidate will have:

* Detailed knowledge of Australian Government standards, such as the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM).
* Detailed knowledge of the Australian Cyber Security Centre's (ACSC) Essential 8 maturity model.
* Strong leadership skills, taking responsibility for the team outcomes, monitor progress and follow through to deliver quality outcomes.
* Ability to think strategically and communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
* The ability to innovate, drive change and improvements.
* Experience identifying, evaluating, and articulating technical risk in an enterprise environment.
* Build capability in a team environment through coaching others, providing performance feedback, encouraging development.

Desirable Skills:

* certification and/or membership to relevant professional organisations including certification in any of the following: CISSP, Security+, CISA, CISM, SABSA, GIAC and SANs
* relevant tertiary qualifications obtained from a recognised Australian tertiary institution or equivalent assessed comparable overseas qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technologies, or Cyber Security is highly desirable.
