Who we are
The Energy Performance Division is part of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. The Division aims to have a positive impact on Australian households, businesses and communities, and work at the forefront of energy policy, supporting Australia's transition to Net Zero and ensuring Australia has access to reliable, affordable and secure energy. Through the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (GEMS) Branch, we manage and administer the GEMS Act 2012, promoting reduced greenhouse gas emissions and energy efficiency in products. The GEMS program regulates products to a minimum standard, monitors compliance, and works closely with the Equipment Energy Efficiency Program (E3) across state and territory governments and New Zealand.
