Xavier College is seeking a professional and detail-oriented Payroll Assistant to join our College community. This role supports the accurate and timely delivery of payroll services and provides administrative assistance to the Human Resources function as needed.
This role is offered on a fixed term 12 month contract, with the potential for permanency. The role is 30 – 37.5 hours a week, over 45 weeks per year. The hours/days are negotiable with the suitable candidate however, a minimum of 4 days is required.
Under the direction of the Senior Payroll Officer, the Payroll Assistant will:
* Assist in the fortnightly payroll process for a workforce of over 400 staff, ensuring payments are processed accurately and on time, ensuring a high level of attention to detail.
* Process a high volume of leave records within College systems (including Preceda), processing commencements, terminations and variations.
* Verify and process employee hours, leave and entitlements, including preparation of leave reports for Catholic Education SA.
* Participate in cyclical payroll activities and maintain payroll documentation in a secure and confidential manner.
* Input and manage salary sacrifice arrangements and ensure compliance with taxation, superannuation and privacy obligations.
* Respond to routine payroll enquiries and provide general advice, referring complex matters as required.
* Provide payroll onboarding administration for new staff.
* Support the Human Resources function with general administrative duties, including filing and maintaining employee and correspondence records.

About You
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong payroll and administrative skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. You will possess excellent time management and organisational abilities, with the capacity to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. Previous experience in payroll and/or human resources administration is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and payroll systems is required, along with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to exercise sound judgement, maintain discretion and handle confidential information with integrity is essential.
