Offer description

Why work with us?

Bus Stop Films is an award-winning, not-for-profit social enterprise that is female and disability-led. We build, create, advocate and facilitate employment opportunities for people with disability across the screen and advertising industries.

We're looking for experienced Support Workers to support our participants during our 2026 Accessible Filmmaking Program in Cairns. You'll be creating a safe, fun and engaging environment by engaging with participants, encouraging active participation and providing custom assistance where required.

We are also looking for back‑up staff to cover shifts in this region. Backup staff are required to invoice and provide PL insurance. If you are interested please indicate this on your application.

Days of Employment

Workshops are on Saturdays from 9.00 am–1.00 pm and will start in late January 2026. The year is broken into four blocks, with breaks. Our full‑year program runs for 40 weeks in total, including one 10‑hour filming day.

Key Responsibilities

* Support the delivery of 40 × 3‑hour filmmaking workshops, in collaboration with the workshop leader and other support workers.
* Arrive 30 minutes before the workshop and stay back 30 minutes after for a debrief.
* Set up / pack down room and equipment for workshops.
* Support participants during excursions and incursions, in collaboration with the workshop leader and other support workers.

* Undertake up to 1 hour paid remote administrative work from home each week (email correspondence included as part of this).
* Flag any behaviours of concern with the Support Manager as soon as they arise, so that Bus Stop's Support team can address them quickly and mitigate risk.
* Take turns with other support workers in contributing to excursion risk assessments remotely in a timely fashion, informed by Participant Profiles and any known participant challenges or risks.
* Identify resources and requirements for workshops.
* Share ideas of opportunities for program excursions with the workshop leader.
* Work with the COO and Head of Screen to plan the production of the Program's short film project.
* Attend end‑of‑term debrief meetings, induction sessions, online info sessions and any other ad‑hoc meetings that may arise, which will be organised to consider your time schedule.
* Complete an inclusive filmmaking project with your program and within the approved budget and guidelines.
* Maintain timely email communication with Bus Stop staff in order to facilitate the smooth delivery of the program each week.
* Perform ad‑hoc administrative tasks as they arise.
* Post any shift covers needed with as much notice as possible, in the Support Worker WhatsApp group for your location.
* Provide and maintain a valid, up‑to‑date Working with Children Check and First Aid Certificate including CPR for the duration of your employment with Bus Stop Films, and provide us with updated details/scans upon renewal.

Selection Criteria

* Professional experience in support work.
* Ability to understand and support participants' needs and concerns.
* Skillful in building safe and supportive relationships with participants.
