The Sydney Symphony Orchestra is one of the world's leading symphonic ensembles, known for its artistry, innovation, and commitment to excellence. We bring exceptional live music experiences to the people of Sydney and beyond, and we are looking for a dynamic and motivated Publicity Coordinator to join our passionate marketing team to support media operations.
The Publicity Coordinator will work closely with the Publicity Manager and Head of Communications & Content to support media and publicity operations to enhance the visibility and reputation of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. This role will involve media outreach, crafting press materials, maintaining media relationships, and providing administrative support to ensure the smooth delivery of all publicity-related initiatives within the orchestra's marketing team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Media Relations:
* Assist in the development and execution of publicity campaigns, ensuring they align with the strategic objectives of the orchestra.
* Build and maintain relationships with media contacts, including journalists, reviewers, editors, radio/tv producers and influencers in the arts, entertainment, and lifestyle sectors.
* Monitor and track media coverage, preparing regular reporting for the marketing team and executive leadership team.
* Update the marketing team and key stakeholders on review coverage in a timely fashion.
* Collaborate with the digital marketing team to ensure key media coverage is effectively showcased across digital platforms (website, social media, e-news) while ensuring consistent and effective messaging is achieved across all platforms.
Press Materials:
* Draft and distribute press releases and other communications materials, including research and content collation for media announcements and pitches.
* Coordinate the creation of press kits for key concerts and special events, ensuring all materials are accurate and up to date.
* Contribute to the creation of key messages and talking points for artists and stakeholders in advance of interviews.
Event Support:
* Provide publicity support for key concerts, interviews, and media appearances.
* Coordinate media and reviewer attendance lists for performances, rehearsals and other special events.
* Distribute concert guides, concert images, information on ticket collection and general communication with media pre and post-concert attendance.
* Assist photographers and film crews onsite when required.
* Assist with artist liaison for interviews or events when required.
Administrative Support:
* Maintain media lists, ensuring contacts are updated regularly.
* Ensure media clippings are filed on a regular basis.
* Manage images folders for concerts and artists. Assist with the distribution and archiving of SSO's photography.
* Seek relevant filming and photography permissions and approvals.
Media Monitoring & Reporting:
* Monitor national and local media coverage and compile and disseminate weekly.
* Provide analytics reports on the performance of publicity campaigns.
* Manage the relationship with our Account Manager at Meltwater.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Although experience in a similar publicity role would be an advantage, we are open to applications from people who have a passion for arts and culture, or candidates who have experience in the arts, music, culture or entertainment industries. We're looking for someone who has:
* Understanding of PR and marketing concepts, practices and industry trends.
* Excellent communication and writing skills.
* Understand the local and national media landscape.
* Be creative, innovative, and enjoy being part of a dedicated team.
* Adaptable with an ability to remain calm in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
* Organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
