About The Role
The
First Nations Policy Officer
Aboriginal Melbourne plays a vital role in supporting the City of Melbourne's vision for Melbourne as an Aboriginal City, where we govern with our Traditional Owners and share a collective commitment to treaty, justice and reconciliation.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful, community-led change that advances self-determination and strengthens outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
You will work within a passionate and purpose-driven team that ensures Aboriginal voices, aspirations and knowledge are embedded in Council's core business and decision making at every level.
A Little More About The Role
* Undertake research, analysis and data collection to inform the development of First Nations related policy, strategy and program initiatives.
* Support co-design, community-informed and culturally appropriate policy development processes.
* Assist in the preparation of policy papers, reports, briefings and correspondence for internal and external stakeholders.
* Contribute to the delivery of projects and initiatives, including planning, coordination, monitoring and evaluation activities.
* Support engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, organisations and other stakeholders to gather input and maintain effective working relationships.
* Monitor emerging issues, legislation and policy developments relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander affairs and local government

About You
You are motivated by making a positive difference for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and are passionate about advancing self-determination, truth telling and culturally strong outcomes. You enjoy working in partnership with community, thrive in a collaborative environment, and bring curiosity, innovation and integrity to your work.
You are comfortable working across multiple projects, building strong relationships, and communicating the value of Aboriginal-led approaches within large organisations.
What your experience might look like - Key Selction Criteria
* Demonstrated understanding of Victorian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and contemporary issues.
* Experience or demonstrated capability in policy research, analysis or development, preferably in a public sector or community context.
* Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal communities and a range of stakeholders.
* Experience supporting projects, including coordination, documentation and reporting.
* Ability to analyse issues, identify options and contribute to practical solutions.
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and contribute positively to team outcomes.
