An ES Inclusion Aide assists in addressing the educational needs of students with identified learning needs and those funded through the Program for Students with Disability (PSD), under the leadership of the Inclusion Leader, who acts on behalf of the Business Manager and Principal.
Experience in working with people with additional needs is desirable as is the ability to attend school camps and excursions outside of regular working hours.
Specific work activities include:
1.To work as part of an effective Inclusion team, under the direction of the ES Inclusion Leader.
2.To work with Inclusion students, both in the classroom and in other settings, in accordance with the programs and strategies designed to meet their needs.
3.To attend school camps to support Inclusion students.
4.To support classroom teachers in the delivery of educational programs for these students from Year 7 to Year 12.
5.To provide curriculum support and assistance to enable the students to participate and communicate in educational activities.
6.To support students with their safety, mobility, social interactions, self-esteem and independence during class time, and where appropriate, at recess and lunchtime.
7.To assist students with organisation, college routines including timetables, lockers, homework and college rules.
8.To assist students with mobility to classrooms, on excursions and camps, during work experience and in the college yard, where necessary.
9.Where agreement has been reached, to assist students with personal hygiene, toileting, lifting, clothing and meals.
10.To communicate with the Inclusion Leader and teachers, any difficulties, concerns and successes experienced by these students.
11.To participate in, and provide information to, the Student Support Group as required.
12.To attend meetings of Inclusion Aides as convened by the Inclusion Leader.
13.To undertake relevant professional learning and participate in the Performance Development Plan (PDP) process.
14.To perform other duties as required by the Principal, Business Manager or Inclusion Leader.
Responsibilities
1. Assist students on an individual or group basis in specific learning areas.
2. Assist with the communication between students and teachers, particularly the interpretation of instructions.
3. Provide basic physical and emotional care for students.
4. Participate in team meetings.
5. Assist with toileting, meals, lifting, and administration of medication to students requiring special care.
6. Assist with the supervision of pupils in playgrounds, at camps, on excursions, in sporting activities, therapy activities and life skills.
7. Assist in the preparation of student resources and equipment.
8. Prepare basic curriculum support resources.
9. Set up and put away equipment and materials in support of teaching programs.
10. Observe students and draw the attention of the teacher to them where necessary.
11. Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of programs and evaluation of individual student involvement and achievement.
12. Assist with communication between teachers and non-English speaking parents/students.
13. Assist in the translation of documents.
14. Assist students with the preparation and service of meals.
15. Ensure work areas and materials, equipment and appliances are maintained in a clean and ready to use condition.
16. Assist in the preparation of equipment and purchasing of materials and supplies as required.
