The Opportunity
As our inaugural Environmental and Sustainability Advisor, you will be responsible for ensuring TT-Line's compliance with all environmental regulatory reporting obligations while driving our sustainability performance and innovation agenda. This newly created role reports directly to the General Counsel and will be based in Devonport or Launceston, with travel required to Geelong on occasions.
Your Strategic Impact
Environmental Compliance and Reporting:
* Manage preparation and timely submission of mandatory environmental reports including National Pollutant Inventory (NPI), National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER), and Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS) disclosures
* Develop and maintain robust environmental data collection and management systems to support accurate regulatory reporting
* Monitor environmental legislation changes and serve as primary contact with environmental regulators
* Conduct compliance audits across TT-Line operations and maintain comprehensive compliance registers
Sustainability Strategy and Innovation:
* Develop and implement TT-Line's sustainability strategy, setting environmental performance targets aligned with industry best practice
* Drive the development of TT-Line's pathway to net-zero emissions, evaluating alternative fuels, renewable energy integration, and emissions abatement technologies
* Lead climate adaptation and resilience planning initiatives, assessing climate-related risks and developing adaptation strategies
* Champion sustainability initiatives that advance beyond compliance, including emissions reduction projects, circular economy initiatives, and energy efficiency improvements
* Develop sustainable procurement practices, integrating environmental criteria into supply chain decisions
Systems and Stakeholder Engagement:
* Develop and implement ISO 14001-aligned environmental management systems supporting continual improvement
* Provide expert advice and training to staff on environmental compliance obligations and sustainability practices
* Drive development of TT-Line's culture of environmental stewardship, embedding environmental considerations into business operations
What You'll Bring
To be successful, you will have:
* Substantial working experience in environmental compliance and sustainability management, including mandatory environmental reporting obligations (NPI, NGER)
* Proven capabilities in developing and implementing environmental management systems and sustainability frameworks
* Relevant tertiary degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability, or related discipline
* Strong knowledge of Australian environmental legislation, regulations and reporting requirements
* Preferably, experience within transport, maritime or industrial sectors where you've navigated complex operational environments
* Understanding of maritime-specific environmental challenges such as emissions management, ballast water management, marine biodiversity impacts, and energy efficiency in vessel operations
* Desirably, exposure to Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS) and AASB S2 Climate Related Disclosures
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to communicate complex environmental information to diverse audiences
* Professional membership or certification with EIANZ or equivalent (desirable)
* Ability to obtain and hold a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) for vessel access
