About The Role
Reporting to the Manager - Corporate Communications, you will lead and coordinate communications across media, digital, social and internal channels. You will support executive leadership, manage media and public information, and ensure all communications are accessible, inclusive and consistent across Council.
This is a varied and hands-on role suited to someone with strong writing skills, sound judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities with limited supervision.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Coordination
Manage Council's rolling communications calendar aligned with operational priorities and statutory timelines Coordinate workflow across the communications team, providing clear direction, briefs and deadlines Monitor risks and issues, escalating where required and capturing insights for continuous improvement Track and evaluate campaign performance
Executive & Civic Communications
Prepare speeches, media statements, key messages and briefing materials for the Mayor, CEO and Executive Leadership Team Translate complex Council decisions and projects into clear, plain-English content Ensure communications are accurate, impartial and inclusive
Media & Public Information
Manage media enquiries and responses in line with Council protocols Develop media releases, holding statements and coordinate interviews Build strong relationships with local and regional media Monitor media coverage and provide advice on emerging issues
Digital, Web & Social Media
Oversee website content to ensure clarity, accessibility (WCAG) and strong search performance Plan and deliver engaging content across digital and social channels Manage online community engagement and moderation Analyse and report on digital performance metrics Coordinate or produce visual content including photography and video
Internal Communications
Deliver effective staff communications including intranet, newsletters and leadership updates Support organisational change initiatives with clear communication plans Develop templates and improve internal communication processes
Emergency & Disaster Communications
Support emergency communications as part of the Public Information Officer function Coordinate communications during incidents in line with disaster management arrangements Maintain readiness materials and contribute to post-incident reviews
Governance & Compliance
Ensure all communications meet brand, privacy, and records management requirements Follow approval processes and maintain accurate documentation Support procurement and manage small-scale campaigns Provide guidance and coaching to staff on communication best practices
