About the Role
We are seeking a trade‑qualified Maintenance Fitter or Qualified Carpenter to join the Engineering Department on a permanent afternoon shift (15:00‑23:30, Mon‑Fri). The role reports to the Engineering Operations Manager and involves technical support, preventative maintenance, repair and continuous improvement of mechanical equipment and building services across all Northern Health sites.
Responsibilities
* Work in a team to resolve day‑to‑day maintenance issues.
* Provide maintenance and technical support to maintenance staff and hospital personnel.
* Carry out preventative maintenance and continuous improvement tasks.
* Diagnose/fault find mechanical equipment and rectify faults.
* Diagnose/fault find building‑related equipment, doors, furniture and cabinetry.
* Perform breakdown maintenance across all sites, all areas and non‑licensed work.
* Prioritise, plan and organise tasks.
* Comply with industry standard practices.
* Conduct mechanical rebuilds and maintain workshop housekeeping.
* Conduct carpentry tasks and maintain workshop housekeeping.
* Supervise contractors performing mechanical or building‑related tasks, ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols.
* Contribute to the training and supervision of Maintenance Technicians.
* Maintain absolute commitment to OH&S, Quality and Environment policies.
Qualifications
* Trade‑qualified fitter and machinist or qualified carpenter (compulsory).
* Availability for on‑call breakdowns and shift cover (rotation included).
* Sound knowledge of Hospital maintenance and OH&S requirements.
* Ability to supervise Maintenance technicians and contract workers.
* Good interpersonal skills.
* Ability to drive continuous improvement.
* Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
* EWP Licence (advantageous).
* Experience in welding (advantageous).
* Experience using a maintenance system (CMMS) (advantageous).
* Working in Confined Space Certificate (advantageous).
* Industrial experience within the health industry is desired but not essential.
