PhD Scholarship - Artificial IntelligencePhD Scholarship - Artificial IntelligenceGet AI-powered advice on this job and more exclusive features. The Human Technology Institute (HTI) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is offering two PhD scholarships for motivated candidates interested in advancing research and developing novel approaches in artificial intelligence (AI) and statistical machine learning that address complex, real-world challenges. One position is aligned with the Thrive Research initiative, focused on addressing social disadvantage in education through data-driven methods, while the other is part of the Marine Ecosystems Research Mobilising AI and Data (MERMAID) project, which aims to enhance our understanding of the marine ecosystem. These full-time doctoral roles are suited to candidates with an interest in developing Bayesian models and methods for learning the structure of a Bayesian network. Successful applicants will contribute to research that informs innovative, evidence-based initiatives through strong partnerships with government, communities, or environmental stakeholders.Doctoral students will conduct original research as part of a multidisciplinary team, including theory development, algorithmic design and implementation, data collection and analysis. They will be expected to engage with the wider academic community through presentations and seminars, participate in regular supervisory meetings, and contribute to the broader goals of the research project. The candidate will also be encouraged to develop their professional skills and academic profile throughout the course of the PhD.ProjectsThrive: Finishing School Well is a research-in-action initiative bringing together world-leading researchers and experts in machine learning, digital technology, social science, and education. Thrive is uncovering what young people of all backgrounds need to finish high school well — and thrive beyond it. By integrating cutting-edge digital technologies and machine learning with human-centered research, Thrive is setting a new standard for how social challenges are understood and addressed.Marine Ecosystems Research Mobilising AI and Data (MERMAID) is a research program seeking to create a world-class, transformational research hub, harnessing the power of causal AI and eDNA data to revolutionize our understanding of the marine ecosystem. MERMAID is an exciting, truly multi-disciplinary partnership between philanthropy, leading mathematicians, computer scientists and marine researchers to forge a new digitally enabled and data-driven approach to discovery and modelling of eDNA.$41,650 per annum (tax exempt) living stipend for 3.5 years$5,000 training allowance per annum for 3 years$5,000 travel allowance$840 thesis allowanceMust be an Australian citizen or permanent resident;Applicants must study full time;Students must meet the UTS PhD eligibility criteria, further information can be found hereMERMAID$40,500 per annum (tax exempt) living stipend for 3.5 years$4,000 travel allowanceApplicants must study full time;MERMAID is open to both Domestic and International students.
