Haskoning Australia delivers tailor made engineering and scientific solutions to our clients across Australia, the Pacific and South East Asia. We are experts in the river, estuarine, coastal and maritime sectors, providing consultancy advice and civil and structural design services to clients in a number of relevant sectors, including (but not limited to): ports and harbours; coastal and flood defence; water management; land reclamation; dredging and material management; planning and policy setting; and all other forms of water's edge development (i.e. energy, recreation, military, telecommunication etc).
The Opportunity
We are searching for a Senior Civil & Water Resources Engineer based in Newcastle to deliver discipline specific Civil, Drainage, Flooding and water resources advisory, engineering and management projects, including both modelling, reporting and design (where required and as appropriate) solutions and services.
You will deliver discipline specific drainage, flood risk, water resource engineering and management projects, solutions and services that meet the Company's, clients and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
You will have a major impact on our place in the market and our ability to win and execute top projects, specific to your own skills and that of the wider team in the Rivers and Water Management service area of Haskoning.
You will play a key role in showing and growing our top expertise and will also significantly contribute to account management and our profitability and reputation, developing products and services that help to build business, fortify our position in the market and ensure that we are current.
Technical Activities
* Provide technical direction during the initiation, management and supervision of water sensitive urban design, water resource management, stormwater quality improvement design, stream restoration works, and flood risk assignments, with delivery on time and within budget, whilst achieving target utilisation (chargeability). Participate in development of local technical systems and standards, and integration with broader RHDHV knowledge base, particularly across the APAC region.
* Prepare commercial, technical and financial proposals to undertake major and minor water resources engineering projects, generally related to water sensitive urban design, rivers and water management such as water sensitive urban design development for developers, State Government and Local Government authorities.
* Prepare work plans around undertaking such projects to plan the appropriate level of resources and scheduling to complete the works in the required time frame and budget.
* Conduct appropriate investigations, studies, analyses, detailed design and documentation, and recommend actions.
* Manage project team to deliver well‐written, accurate reporting documents, maps, figures and drawings that meet the expectations of the client, in accordance with agreed delivery criteria and timeframes.
* Provide high level technical advice to engineers and scientists from other disciplines and co‐ordinate the activities of other scientists, engineers and designers.
* Check and review other staff's work (both inside and outside the firm) as required, ensuring quality deliverables in line with Haskoning's standards.
* Supervise and instruct mid‐level and junior or less experienced engineers and other sub‐professionals (drafters) in technical works as well as assist in professional development.
What you need
* Essential: Civil Engineering Degree (or equivalent)
* Essential: Experience in civil engineering for stormwater drainage, rivers and water management projects.
* Essential: Experience in project management – ability to manage projects independently
* Experienced in a range of software including DRAINS, MUSIC, 12D, Autocad, TUFLOW desirable but not essential.
* Desirable: Working towards chartered engineering
* Desirable: 5 years experience in civil and drainage design.
* Highly effective technical and practical engineering skills in the field of Drainage, Stormwater Management, River Engineering and Water Management
* Provide direction and advice on technical matters, teach and mentor others in the team
* Ability to independently manage projects and stakeholder relationships including clients and other 3rd parties
* Provide on‐site direction of investigations and project deliverables
Travel
Ability to travel for one or two days to Sydney or other interstate destinations on a regular basis (once every month or two), and potentially internationally (occasionally) for project assignments or meetings, as needed to meet client requirements.
