Senior Legal Counsel (Commercial & Procurement)
Taylor-Root is seeking a seasoned Senior Commercial Lawyer to provide high-level legal expertise to our client, a prestigious government agency offering financial solutions domestically and internationally. This permanent role will be based in Sydney or Canberra.
The ideal candidate will lead the procurement function and deliver expert legal support on commercial, procurement, IT contracts, and service agreements. This includes providing strategic advice on complex procurements, contract management, and assurance mechanisms.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement framework that aligns with government legislative requirements, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and value for money.
2. Provide critical procurement advice and support for high-risk procurements, assessing and managing related legal risks.
3. Oversee procurement planning to ensure timely delivery of projects, effective resource allocation, and risk mitigation.
4. Implement and manage robust assurance mechanisms to guarantee compliance with procurement laws and regulations.
5. Collaborate with stakeholders to assess and mitigate potential supplier-related risks, including vendor agreements and contractual obligations.
6. Design and deliver training programs to enhance understanding of legal obligations, risk management, and best practices within the organization.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will require:
* At least 7 years of experience in a government environment or from a mid-to-top tier law firm.
* Strong procurement expertise, preferably in a government context, with excellent knowledge of relevant legislation.
* Excellent drafting and negotiation skills for commercial agreements and contracts.
* A deep understanding of government procurement laws and regulations, as well as industry standards.
