About the Role
The Koorie Education Children Court Liaison Officer (Senior Community Services Advisor) supports the education engagement and participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people who appear before the Criminal Division of the Children's Courts across Victoria to improve their learning and wellbeing outcomes. This position requires collaboration with schools, the Department of Education's regional and area workforces, the Children's Courts, and other state government agencies. The incumbent may travel to additional Children's Court locations to provide referral assistance.
Responsibilities
* Assist stakeholders to navigate the education sector, providing sound judgement and advice.
* Work with key support services to connect or re‐connect children with existing or new schools or education/training settings.
* Facilitate access to appropriate education options for Koorie young people on community‐based youth justice orders.
* Collaborate with Department of Education area and regional teams, schools, and other relevant agencies such as the Departments of Families, Fairness and Housing and Justice and Community Safety.
* Provide advice and support for the education engagement and participation of Koorie children aged 10–17 years old who are before the Children's Courts.
* Offender may travel to Children's Court locations in Ballarat, Horsham, Stawell, Bacchus Marsh, St Arnaud and Ararat as required.
Qualifications and Experience
* Extensive understanding of Koorie culture, education and community needs.
* Experience supporting schools and/or Koorie young people 'at‐risk' or engaging with the criminal justice system (desirable).
* Proven ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels through effective communication and consulting abilities.
* Effective problem‐solving capability to resolve or escalates operational service queries.
* Track record in identifying opportunities to work with other teams to deliver outcomes.
* Expertise in building and maintaining trust in partnerships to achieve objectives through timely delivery of high‐quality outcomes.
* Expertise to facilitate discussions and navigate differences of opinion to reach decisions.
* Ability to provide a sense of purpose within the team by linking work to community impact.
