Science Technician - Wynnum State High School

An exciting opportunity is available at Wynnum State High School for a Science Technician in a job-share capacity. This role will involve working every Tuesday and Wednesday each week, providing administrative and technical support to the school and the Science Faculty. The position is offered on a Temporary Part-Time basis (0.40 FTE), 29 hours per fortnight.

This is a progressional position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the lower classification with eligibility for progression to the next, once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of both classification ranges.

Wynnum State High School, established in 1942, is located in Brisbane's Bayside District. The school offers a range of academic, vocational, and extracurricular pathways with state-of-the-art facilities and modern technology, supporting a positive and forward-thinking learning environment.

Your opportunity

As a Science Technician, you will support the smooth management of the school's science department by providing technical and administrative assistance to the Head of Department, teachers, and laboratory staff. You will work independently within established guidelines to help maintain department efficiency and support science education.

Responsibilities

* Prepare, distribute and set up samples, demonstrations, class sets of equipment, and related materials for practical teaching laboratory use.
* Prepare chemical solutions from bulk supplies, including concentrated acids, stains, and media; assemble simple glassware and equipment for laboratory use.
* Work independently in a science laboratory, recognizing, anticipating, and safely managing chemical hazards.
* Maintain scientific teaching resources, classrooms, storerooms, preparation rooms and laboratories in a clean, safe, orderly, and secure manner.
