* We value an inclusive team culture that promotes collaboration and innovation at their core

Do work that matters
At Bankwest, we're transforming to become Australia's favourite digital bank, and product design is critical to how we get there. As part of a team that values curiosity, collaboration and bold thinking, you'll help us shape banking that's smarter, faster and genuinely useful for our customers in their everyday lives.
You'll sit within the Brand and Experience team in Customer, Marketing and Communications, championing customer-led design across our digital ecosystem. Working in a cross-functional, highly collaborative group spanning CX strategy, product design, experience design, and accessibility to turn strategy into reality by designing simple, distinctive, customer-led experiences.
As the Product Design Lead for our Application and Opening Crew, you'll play a pivotal role in attracting customers to join Bankwest and seamlessly open new products. You'll shape critical end-to-end experiences across the Bankwest app, website, online customer application platform and digital ID systems — ensuring they are intuitive, trusted and customer-first.
See yourself in our team
We're seeking an experienced Product Design Leader to drive the transformation of our digital banking experiences. You'll lead and inspire a team of designers, modernising legacy journeys and delivering simple, intuitive, customer-first solutions in a complex, regulated environment.
Blending strategic thinking with hands-on craft, you confidently balance innovation with risk and compliance, influence senior stakeholders, and embed scalable design practices that elevate both customer outcomes and business impact.
Responsibilities
* Define, lead and own the problem space
o Lead strategic discovery, align design outcomes to measurable objectives, and partner closely with product and engineering stakeholders to influence decision making
o Apply systems thinking to identify patterns, gaps, and opportunities across end-to-end experiences
* Design, test and iterate
o Lead the creation of frameworks, flows, and high fidelity solutions that move from concept to production, are validated once released, and improve continuously
o Guide and coach effective discovery by advising on appropriate research methods, reviewing test plans and service design artefacts, and support experimentation and learning outcomes
o Facilitate design thinking, usability testing, and iterative improvements
o Create and validate detailed wireframes and interactive prototypes of large/complex features and flows, to visualise the UI and interaction model for stakeholders and developers and identify patterns to be included in the design system
* People Leadership and team growth
o Lead, coach, and support a team of designers to build skill and change mindset to achieve our ambitious goals
o Improve design processes, team ceremonies, and documentation to help the team move faster and more efficiently
o Support hiring, onboarding, and performance development in partnership with Experience Design leadership, helping build a team comfortable with change and growth
o Create an inclusive, supportive environment where designers can do their best work
o Build a strong team identity and foster collaboration across designers and squads
* Collaboration and influence
o Act as a strategic design partner to product and engineering teams, contributing to decision-making early and often
o Communicate the value and impact of design to senior stakeholders and influence product strategy through customer insight and design thinking
o Design & execute workshops, critiques, and alignment sessions that drive clarity and momentum
o Communicate design rationale, trade-offs, and impact clearly to stakeholders
o Advocate for customer-centred decision-making while embracing the realities of scale, constraints, and rapid change
We're interested in hearing from people with:
* Demonstrated experience across the full product design lifecycle (research, discovery, design, delivery).
* Proven ability to lead discovery and delivery activities with customers, product, and engineering stakeholders.
* Expert capability in lean UX, synthesising what you learn, and prototyping to explore and validate direction.
* Deep understanding of human-centred design methodologies and how to apply and execute them pragmatically in a fast-paced agile environment.
* Experience designing for complex systems, services, or platforms, not just isolated features.
* Proficiency with modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite) and a basic understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, components, design tokens).
* Experience with metrics-driven product development (e.g. running experiments, A/B testing, usage funnels data).
* Strong collaboration and communication skills — you're as comfortable sketching ideas on a whiteboard with engineers as you are presenting strategic concepts to executives.
* AI literacy and a willingness to adopt new tools responsibly.
* A portfolio that showcases end-to-end product design thinking, craft, and measurable impact
