As a Temporary Cook at Discovery Child Care Centre, you will play a key role in preparing a wide variety of nutritious meals and snacks for children ranging from birth to school age. You will be responsible for creating meals that support the development and well-being of the children, ensuring they meet the standards outlined in the NSW Health Munch and Move initiative, and complying with all relevant health and safety guidelines.
Key Responsibilities :
* Meal Preparation : Prepare a diverse range of healthy, balanced meals and snacks suitable for children of various ages, following the guidelines of the NSW Health Munch and Move initiative.
* Food Safety Compliance : Adhere to the Food Safety Plan and complete all associated records accurately, ensuring that all meals are prepared in accordance with health regulations.
* Kitchen Management : Maintain a clean and organized kitchen area, ensuring the highest standards of food hygiene, preparation, and handling practices are consistently followed.
* Ordering and Stock Management : Order food supplies, monitor inventory levels, and ensure that the kitchen is always well-stocked with fresh ingredients, complying with budget and quality standards.
* Safety and Hygiene : Follow all food safety protocols and procedures, including safe food handling and storage practices.
* Regulatory Compliance : Work in accordance with the Education and Care National Regulations, National Standards, and NSW Department of Health Guidelines to ensure that all food-related processes align with legal and regulatory requirements.
* Health and Safety Practices : Maintain a safe and clean work environment at all times, ensuring that the kitchen meets both local and national food safety standards while adhering to the centre’s overall safety policies and procedures.
* Communication and Collaboration : Collaborate with other staff members to ensure that the children’s dietary needs are met and that any food allergies or special dietary requirements are addressed appropriately.
Qualifications and Experience :
* Previous experience in a commercial kitchen or similar food preparation environment is preferred, ideally with experience in childcare or working with children.
* Knowledge and understanding of food safety practices and relevant regulations.
* Ability to follow recipes, manage food supplies, and keep accurate records.
* Certification in Food Safety or Food Handling.
* First Aid and CPR certification is highly desirable.
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* A passion for healthy eating and promoting good nutrition in young children.
* Ability to maintain a high level of cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen.
* Excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
* Strong communication skills to interact with children, staff, and parents.
