Join the team redefining how the world experiences design. We are looking for a senior data scientist in the embedded analytics team within Canva's Security group, focused on building analytical models, maintaining backend services, and providing data‐driven insights to leadership.
Your Work Will Span Three Areas
* Security metrics that drive decisions: Own metrics that inform security leadership, build and maintain scorecards and KPIs across vulnerability management, identity & access, and compliance. Design data models, build dashboards, define OKRs, and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
* Evaluations and quality for AI‐powered services: Own the evaluation framework for AI‐powered security services, curate ground truth datasets, design quality metrics, build human feedback loops, and iterate on classification approaches.
* Analytical solutions for real‐time security problems: Build streaming analytics over petabytes of logs, enable near‐real‐time threat detection, and monitor access patterns across multiple cloud environments.
Day To Day, You'll Be
* Analyzing security datasets to find patterns, measure risk, and surface insights that influence prioritization.
* Designing experiments, building statistical models, and stress‐testing assumptions.
* Writing SQL, Python, and data models to transform raw data into actionable insights.
* Presenting findings to security leads, engineering leaders, and senior stakeholders.
* Collaborating across security, privacy, compliance, and data platform teams.
* Mentoring peer data scientists, running knowledge‐sharing sessions, and contributing reusable patterns and frameworks.
What You'll Need
* Strong SQL and Python skills; real experience with modern data stack tools such as dbt and cloud data warehouses.
* The ability to own a problem end‐to‐end: scope measurement, build data models, validate outputs, and communicate results to non‐technical audiences.
* Experience designing evaluation frameworks or quality metrics for ML/AI systems, including ground truth curation and precision/recall analysis.
* Clear, concise communication skills for documentation and presentations.
* Experience working independently as a senior individual contributor in a small team.
It'd Be Great If You Also Have
* Experience in the security domain such as data classification, access control, vulnerability management, or compliance frameworks.
* Familiarity with large‐language models in applied settings (prompt engineering, RAG, evaluation methodology).
* Experience with dimensional modelling, semantic layers, or building self‐serve analytics infrastructure.
* Exposure to streaming or real‐time analytics architectures.
* A background in maths/statistics and a degree in a STEM area.
* A passion for sharing knowledge through mentoring, speaking, or documentation.
* Experience at a tech company and knowledge of modern data team operations.

The Security Insights team is an agile unit focused on scaling data analytics to enhance Canva's security posture by measuring and monitoring risks associated with data access.
