Financial Controller
Salary: $190,000 + Super

Team: Finance Team of 5
Overview
The Financial Controller is responsible for leading all financial reporting, statutory compliance, tax obligations, and financial governance for the organisation. This role oversees month-end delivery, ensures the accuracy of financial information, and drives continuous improvement in finance processes. Managing a team of five, the Financial Controller provides strong leadership, technical expertise, and commercial support across the business.
Operating in a fast-paced industrial and project-based environment, the position plays a key role in maintaining compliance, strengthening internal controls, and supporting executive decision-making with reliable financial insights.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month-End Leadership
* Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
* Prepare and review management reports, board packs, variance analysis, and commentary.
* Oversee consolidation, reconciliations, journals, project profitability reporting, and cashflow analysis.
* Ensure all reporting aligns with applicable accounting standards (AASB) and internal policies.
Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
* Manage statutory reporting including annual financial statements and audit preparation.
* Coordinate external audit activities, provide working papers, and ensure timely resolution of queries.
* Maintain full compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and external regulatory obligations.
Taxation & Corporate Obligations
* Oversee the preparation and lodgement of BAS, FBT, payroll tax, income tax information, and other corporate tax requirements.
* Ensure tax compliance through accurate reconciliations, documentation, and advisory support.
Financial Governance & Internal Controls
* Strengthen financial controls, risk management processes, and compliance frameworks across the organisation.
* Monitor working capital positions, asset registers, provisions, and financial exposures.
* Implement best-practice processes that support accuracy, transparency, and audit readiness.
Team Leadership & Development
* Lead, coach, and mentor a finance team of five.
* Set clear performance expectations, develop capability, and support continuous learning.
* Create a proactive and high-performing finance culture with strong attention to detail and accountability.
Business Partnering & Commercial Support
* Work closely with operational leaders to provide financial insights, cost reviews, and commercial analysis.
* Support budgeting, forecasting, scenario modelling and long-term financial planning.
* Improve financial literacy across operational and project teams.
Systems, Processes & Continuous Improvement
* Enhance financial systems, reporting tools, and workflow automation.
* Identify inefficiencies and drive process improvements across finance and operations.
* Support digital transformation initiatives and data integrity across all financial systems.
Skills & Experience Required
* CA/CPA qualified with significant experience in financial control, statutory reporting, and compliance.
* Strong technical accounting capability and understanding of relevant standards.
* Proven ability to lead a finance team in a complex or project-based business environment.
* Experience with tax compliance, audits, and financial governance.
* Exceptional attention to detail, process discipline, and analytical capability.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across all departments.
