**About the Role**
Reporting to the Operations Centre Manager, the Air Transport and Operations Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the Operations Control team, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of aircraft in flight and on the ground. This role combines leadership, in-flight scheduling, crew coordination, and disruption resolution with critical air transport responsibilities, including flight planning, aircraft performance monitoring, and compliance with air traffic control procedures.
**Key Duties & Responsibilities**
- Prioritise safety as a core value, contributing to a zero-harm and incident-free environment through active participation in safety programs.
- Prepare and submit flight plans, considering weather conditions, aircraft performance, and operational requirements.
- Monitor aircraft performance during flight, reporting on mechanical conditions to ensure airworthiness.
- Provide flight information to flight crews and air traffic services staff, including aeronautical information services.
- Assist in controlling aircraft movements, take-offs, and landings via radio
- Coordinate and monitor crew rosters to ensure all flights are fully crewed and operate as scheduled, re-crewing flights as needed due to illness, disruptions, or new charters. Communicate with flight and cabin crew regarding roster changes, service delays, or operational updates, including delivering crew briefings.
- Monitor operations across the network, identifying and mitigating threats to on-time performance or safety.
- Liaise with client organisations, maintenance watch staff, and engineering management to resolve operational issues and authorise unscheduled flights.
- Utilise tools such as Metron Harmony to monitor airport slots and optimise on-time performance.
- Maintain a flight watch on all flights, ensuring compliance with company manuals, Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations, and applicable employment awards. Demonstrate leadership in promoting teamwork, morale, and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform other related tasks as required by the Operations Centre Manager.
**Skills and Experience**
- Tertiary qualifications in aviation or related field, or equivalent industry experience
- Experience in air transport operations, flight planning, or a similar aviation role
- Familiarity with crew rostering and flight disruption management
- Solid understanding of CASA regulations and aviation safety standards
- Strong communication skills and ability to deliver clear, concise briefings
- High attention to detail and ability to prioritise tasks under pressure
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and aviation-related systems
- Ability to work independently, show initiative, and resolve operational issues
**Desirable**:
- Experience with Airline Computer Reservations Systems (CRS)
- Background in customer service or pre-flight briefing coordination
