About this role
Are you passionate about science and education? Do you thrive in a hands-on, dynamic environment? We are looking for a dedicated Laboratory Technician to join our vibrant school community on a part-time basis (1 day a week) and support the next generation of scientists!
As our Laboratory Technician, you’ll play a crucial role in the Science Department, helping bring lessons to life across a variety of disciplines, including Physics, Chemistry, Human Biology, Ecology, Forensics, Psychology, and General Science. Under the direction of the Head of Science, you will ensure that students and teachers have access to high-quality laboratory resources and safe, engaging, practical experiences.
Position Requirements
* Assist teaching staff in planning and setting up practical activities.
* Set up, calibrate, and operate laboratory equipment in alignment with lesson plans and student outcomes.
* Prepare test solutions and other chemical materials following specific formulations. Organize and distribute class sets of chemicals, apparatus, and other materials.
* Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization, and storage of laboratory equipment and glassware.
* Handle and securely store hazardous chemicals in accordance with safety regulations.
* Maintain a safe, organized, and well-equipped laboratory environment that complies with health and safety standards, legislative acts, regulations, and school policies.
* Support the Science department in creating engaging and inspiring science lessons.
* Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure proper functionality.
* Assist Science teachers with practical lessons and demonstrations.
* Provide technical support and guidance to Science teachers and students as needed.
* Participate in the procurement and inventory management of laboratory resources.
Essential Criteria
The successful applicant must:
* Be a Christian, sharing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
* Adhere to the 'Staff Code of Conduct', 'Child Safe Policy', and ‘Statement of Affirmation of Faith’.
* A current Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance.
* Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills to enable professional interaction with a range of people, including parents and support staff.
* Become an active team member within the College, consistent with its vision and mission.
* Relevant qualifications in a Science-related field or equivalent experience as a Laboratory Technician/Assistant
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment
* Excellent organisational and time management abilities to ensure the efficient operation of the Science laboratories
* Demonstrated experience in the safe handling and storage of chemicals and biological materials
* Ability to work collaboratively with Science teachers and students to support their learning and practical activities
* Strong communication skills to provide technical guidance and support
* Commitment to upholding health and safety standards in the laboratory environment
