The School
The School of Special Educational Needs: Behaviour and Engagement (SSEN:BE) is part of the network of specialist schools under the Statewide Services pillar of Service Delivery. SSEN:BE provides educational support and services for students with extreme, complex and challenging behaviours across a Kindergarten to Year 12 (K-12) context. Engagement Centres and the Midland Learning Academy deliver a continuum of consultative support, coordinated through SSEN:BE as a statewide model of supports for schools, teachers, and students. Support is available across the public school system.
Engagement Centres coordinate the K-12 provision of three services:
- Professional learning to improve student engagement and behaviour
- Consultative support for planning for students with very complex needs
- Direct and indirect support for students with the most extreme, challenging, and complex needs
Find out more about our school by visiting SSENBE | With Schools for Students or Schools Online.
The Role
As an accomplished practitioner, suitable applicants should develop, implement, and report on individual case management of K-12 students with highly complex needs and challenging behaviour, and create and maintain safe and supportive learning environments. You should provide a high level of consultancy to school staff and establish and maintain effective working relationships to improve student outcomes. Suitable applicants should ideally participate in and deliver targeted professional learning and engage professionally with colleagues, parents and the community, including other Departmental teams and external agencies to support student engagement. Applicants would also be responsible for teaching students located on-site at the Engagement Centre on an alternate education arrangement as part of supporting multi-tiered systems of support for student engagement.
Knowledge areas that are advantageous include Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA); SEN planning and reporting; social and emotional learning programs; Trauma Informed Practice; Positive Behaviour Support; Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Strategies; and applying student behavioural interventions. Experience with managing challenging behaviours, supporting colleagues to develop behaviour management skills, and knowledge of the CMS suite and WA Positive Behaviour Support (WA PBS) is desirable.
Travel to schools within the Great Southern region may be required to provide support, and travel across the school site may occur. Attendance at associated training and school development days at the main site (Statewide Services Centre in Padbury) may be required, including overnight stays. A current WA driver’s licence may be needed for the duration of the role.
