General Manager – Site Remediation & Project Delivery Location: Flexible, within 2 hours of WollongongTerm: 2-year initial contract | Full-time or part-time negotiable About the OrganisationThe Illawarra Coke Company (ICC) is a privately held company focussed on the remediation and rehabilitation of two key legacy industrial sites in the Illawarra; the former Coalcliff Coke Works and Corrimal Coke Works ("The Works"). ICC operates at the intersection of engineering, environmental compliance, and land transformation—working with local and state authorities, neighbours, and the community to deliver responsible, future-focused outcomes. About the RoleThis newly created, senior-level role has been created to replace existing executive capacity (formerly provided by two owner/directors) to lead site-based remediation works while coordinating external consultants, contractors, and regulatory stakeholders. The role requires a hands-on, “can do” approach. Reporting directly to the board, the General Manager will oversee the operational and commercial delivery of the Coalcliff site remediation and liaise with ICC’s development partner at The Works Corrimal. You’ll also play a key role in managing compliance and financial oversight of work at Coalcliff.This is a hybrid work from home and on-site role that is expected to be required for 2+ years. The role can be constructed flexibly to suit the successful candidate’s circumstances. Site attendance will be required several times per month with more frequent visits initially and during periods of significant site work. The person appointed will live in the Sydney or Illawarra metropolitan regions, within 90 minutes drive from Coalcliff. Key ResponsibilitiesOversee remediation and demolition activities at the Coalcliff site including letting of key civil works contracts and contract administration.Manage professional and delivery contractors and a small site team.Manage regulatory relationships, including EPA and Wollongong City Council.Manage key external relationships, including Coalcliff community, State and local MPs and Transport for NSW Rail and Roads.Lead development and delivery of site level budgets, including cash flow monitoring, cost tracking, and reporting to directors.Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, including WHS, dam safety and development approvals.Prepare reporting and board meeting papers.Work closely with and report to the directors to enable a successful long-term strategy for the site. What You BringYou are a senior civil engineer with a pragmatic approach and the confidence to operate independently. You bring:A degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.15+ years’ experience, including senior responsibility for infrastructure or industrial site remediation.A demonstrated ability to deliver complex, multi-stakeholder projects.Familiarity with NSW planning regulations, environmental compliance, and development pathways.Proven financial literacy, including the ability to read and interpret balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.Fluency in Excel, with the ability to support internal budgeting and project tracking processes.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in dealing with regulatory bodies, councils, and legal advisors.Comfort in working independently without the support of a substantial corporate infrastructure.
