The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for Western Australia (ODPP) is a critical participant in the administration of justice within Western Australia. Separate to its criminal prosecution service, the ODPP's Confiscations Team performs functions under the Criminal Property Confiscation Act 2000 (WA) (CPCA) in conjunction with the Proceeds of Crime Squad at the WA Police Force. The Confiscations Team compliments the ODPP's criminal prosecution service to ensure the confiscation of illegally or criminally obtained property and property of declared drug traffickers.
The Confiscations Team is a legal practice with expertise in proceeds of crime law which requires the capability to understand and apply several areas of law, including property law, equity/ trusts, investigation law, taxation law and criminal law in a civil litigation and dispute resolution setting. The team comprises of qualified Australian legal practitioners, paralegals, and legal assistants.
The Opportunity
The ODPP is presently expanding its team to undertake meaningful work for the benefit of the Western Australian community as part of its ongoing commitment disrupt criminal activity and to remove a primary motivator for criminal activity and drug crimes. Australian legal practitioners who:
* have a litigation/investigatory skill set;
* wish to enhance their capabilities through on the job and formal training by experts; and
* are motivated to progress to more senior positions in the ODPP in the future,

Confiscations Lawyers invoke a range of civil litigation and investigatory powers that are available under the CPCA. Necessarily, this requires a consultative approach with WA Police Force's Proceeds of Crime Squad to advance investigations and litigation effectively and efficiently for the benefit of the Western Australian community. The work is stimulating and rewarding. The Confiscations Team:
* Conducts civil litigation and investigatory litigation under the CPCA in a range of WA courts.
* Confiscates assets from persons involved in criminal and illegal activities.
* Pursues the confiscation of assets owned or effectively controlled by declared drug traffickers.
* Provides advice on CPCA investigations/litigation.
The ODPP intends to make several offers of employment at the conclusion of the recruitment process as part of a strategic expansion of the team subject to applicants being assessed as suitable.
