Australia the Gift is an Australian owned and operated business in operation since 1953. We have retail stores across Australia, and an online presence. With plans for growth in 2026, this newly created position of Assistant Buyer within our business is a permanent position Monday to Friday.
About the Role
The exciting role will be supporting the Buying Team in a multitude of different functions. Your primary responsibilities will be in ensuring we have the right stock in the right place at the right time, to satisfy customers' needs through forecasting accuracy both online and instore. Operating within a small team means your time is not limited to this. You will be required to be self‑motivated and have excellent time management skills.This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong analytical skills and a passion for accuracy who thrives in a fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide analytical and administrative support to the Buying Team
* Adding new ranged items
* Updating prices
* Managing the product department and category files
* Maintaining trading terms and order rosters
* Efficiently handle all product enquiries
* Develop effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders and provide timely support
* Create and analyse reports relating to the performance of suppliers, ranges and sales
* Interpret and analyse large data sets using advanced Excel functions to support business decisions
* Forecasting demand in response to seasonal variances and promotional activities
* Create ad-hoc reports relating to general business performance
What We're Looking For
* Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role
* 5 years' experience in a retail environment
* Self-motivated and resourceful, with strong problem‑solving skills
* Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
* Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas, etc.)
* Strong communication and organisational skills
* Experience in ERP software is beneficial
