The Australian Government is seeking applications from suitably qualified persons for appointment to the full-time statutory position of Associate Director at the Office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP).

The CDPP is an independent agency established under the
Director of Public Prosecutions Act 1983
(the Act). The CDPP prosecutes a wide range of alleged criminal offences and a range of regulatory offences. The CDPP carries out prosecutions in the courts of every Australian state and territory and is also responsible for prosecuting offences in Jervis Bay and Australia's external territories. The CDPP has more than 400 staff, and operates nationally with offices in each capital city, Townsville and Cairns.

As Associate Director, you will have a detailed knowledge and understanding of the Commonwealth's criminal justice framework and the ability to exercise the powers, functions and decision-making responsibilities of the Director under the Act and the Prosecution Policy of the Commonwealth.

You will be an outstanding leader, with high level judgment and integrity, a strong achievement orientation and excellent communication skills. You will have the ability to lead a specialist national legal practice operating in the public sector context, as well as foster an ongoing culture of innovation and modernisation. You will have the ability to work collaboratively with others to meet the CDPP's strategic objectives, namely providing an efficient and effective prosecution service, engaging with partner agencies and stakeholders and investing in the staff of the CDPP.

The Associate Director must be a legal practitioner and have been a legal practitioner for no less than 5 years. Appointment as Senior Counsel or King's Counsel is preferred.
