WHO ARE WE?
Lighthouse Foundation provides homes and therapeutic care programs to children and young people impacted by long-term neglect, abuse, and homelessness. Our focus is to create caring communities where kids can feel safe, form meaningful relationships, and begin to heal from traumatic experiences. For the past 30 years, our proven Model of Care has successfully transformed the lives of over 1,000 young people using a range of evidence-based strategies. We now educate and support Foster Carers in the same way, so that they too can take care of some of Australia's most vulnerable children.
HOW WILL I HELP?
Based in Lilydale, the role provides therapeutic care to enrich the safety, attachment and physical and emotional development for trauma-impacted young people living in a residential setting.
The role is to provide high quality day-to-day therapeutic care, act as a positive role model and supervise the young people who live in the home. Although the role comes with its challenges, it is highly rewarding, and you will play an integral part in a community that brings positive change to a young person's life.
This model works on a 24/7 roster, where there are night shifts seven days a week.

Please Note: It is mandatory for the successful applicant to hold a current Working with Children Check and be prepared to undergo a National Criminal History Check prior to commencement.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL?
First and foremost, interpersonal skills are a must, with a level of maturity and understanding needed when working with those who use and support our services.
From a professional standpoint you will require;
* Experience in a care orientated role
* Demonstrated commitment to personal and professional development
* Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of complex trauma.
* Experience with conflict resolution and mediation
* Sound knowledge and skill for assessment to identify suicide/self-harm risks and strategies to manage same
* Experience in writing incident reports, case notes and other communication required for statutory clients
* Ability to stay calm and rational in challenging situations
* Ability to work with young people, and knowledge of the special needs of complex trauma
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Availability to work various shifts across a 24/7 roster, including sleepovers and weekends
Other key skills which would be desirable;
* You are open to being challenged and are able to consider different views
* You have an understanding of attachment and trauma-informed practice
* You are willing to embrace the Lighthouse Model of Care, and to work as a team
* You have the ability to stay calm in emotionally demanding situations
* You are committed to personal and professional development
* You have experience with conflict resolution and mediation
* You possess critical response skills to youth-based crisis situations, including practical and psychiatric emergencies
* You have an ability to identify and assess suicide/self-harm risks and understand the strategies to manage these risks
For this role you will please note you will also need:
* Tertiary Qualification in relevant/associated field
* Current driver's license
* Valid first aid certificate (if necessary) (or willingness to obtain one)
* Criminal Records check
* Current Working with Children check
