About the role
The City of Coffs Harbour is looking for an independent member to join its Audit Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC). If you have the right mix of skills and experience, we want to hear from you
The objective of the Council's ARIC is to provide independent assurance to the Council by monitoring, reviewing and providing advice about the Council's governance processes, compliance, risk management, control frameworks, external accountability obligations and overall performance.
This is a vital role in ensuring transparency and accountability within our local government. The committee comprises of 1 Chairperson, 2 Independent Members, and 1 non-voting Councillor. Members are appointed for up to 4 years, with the possibility of reappointment.

About you?
To be eligible to be considered and appointed as an independent member of the ARIC, candidates must demonstrate:
* The ability to read and understand financial statements.
* The understanding of government ethical requirements and conflicts of interest.
* The capacity to form independent judgments.
* A willingness to constructively challenge management practices.
* Professionalism and ethics in duty and a commitment to devote necessary time to the committee.
* Relevant knowledge in areas such as risk management, performance management, auditing, financial reporting, accounting, and governance.
* Independence from the council.
Application and Selection Process
Please provide a 1-2 page summary of your experience and why you feel you would be the ideal candidate for this opportunity.
An evaluation panel will assess applications, shortlist candidates for interviews, and make recommendations to the Council.
The Interview structure will include a panel interview in the first round and a second interview with the General Manager with appointment being endorsed with councillors.
Expected start date: May 2026

* 4 year term (there is the option for this to be renewed for an additional 4 years, on agreement of both parties)
