OverviewMeeka Metals Limited (MEK) is building Western Australia's newest gold mine and requires a proactive Safety and Emergency Officer to join the Health and Safety team at their flagship site - Murchison Gold Project, 50 km north of Meekatharra.
The project is a combined open pit and underground mining operation with an initial 10-year mine life.
Site activities are ramping up with construction underway, mining operations commencing early in 2025 and processing commencing shortly thereafter.About the RoleThe role reports to the Health and Safety Superintendent and is responsible for providing technical advice and support to the site leadership team and employees regarding all Health and Safety and Emergency Response requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership and strategic direction in Health and Safety management and Emergency preparednessOversee the treatment of presented injuries or medical conditionsPromote a positive health and safety culture and setting for all site personnelEstablish effective Emergency Response Team (ERT) through promoting and recruiting participants to the teamCoordinate all emergency response training requirements and develop skills pathways for (ERT) membersImplement and monitor the emergency drill schedule ensuring compliance and ongoing improvement against key metricsIdentify and report potential hazards and eliminate risk taking behaviours or actions of site personnelMaintain the site Emergency Response Plan and train all employees and contractors in the duty card systemDevelop and maintain emergency response equipment registers including asset register, maintenance records and usage reportDevelop robust procedures, reports and site policies to ensure investigations of all incidents are reported accuratelyCoordinate off-site treatment and monitor the Return-to-Work case requirementsMaintain the site medical clinic to an operational level including ordering stock and supplies, cleanliness and hygiene monitoringAbout You+4 years' experience in a similar role within a live mining environmentKnowledge of the DEMIRS Safety Regulation SystemDeveloped numeracy, written and verbal communication skillsThe ability to coordinate and prioritise workloadsDisplay sound judgement and problem-solving abilitiesExperience in the Microsoft Office suite of softwareRequired CertificatesCertificate IV Work Health & SafetyCERT IV in Health CareCERT III in Emergency Response and RescueValid C Western Australian Drivers LicenceSenior First Aid CertificateAccommodationYou will be accommodated in a well-appointed mine village with a fully equipped gym, WIFI with streaming capacity, and full Telstra coverage.
