Primary objective
To assist and strategically manage the Department's activities in the region and coordinate the Region's administrative practices in
line with corporate policies and procedures.
Context statement
The Department's work units at Alice Springs and Tennant Creek have highly skilled and well-regarded staff in the fields of
agriculture, horticulture, livestock management, biosecurity, mining compliance, geological survey, and water laboratory services.
The Department has roles in both industry development and effective regulation.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide advice and assistance to the Executive Management group, in the management of regional activities.
2. Lead and direct the regional administration team in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.
3. Advise on cost management and financial matters to ensure the best use of the resources available to the Group.
4. Provide strategic advice and secure training and development to promote high quality business practices and governance in the
region.
5. Provide specific input to business planning for the region including budget, Human Resource planning, corporate reporting and
output and performance management matters.
6. Liaise with the Department's Information Officer and coordinate the retrieval and monitoring of information from regional
records.
7. Work with the department's corporate management groups to provide input to continuous improvement of corporate
management practices.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven ability to lead and manage a workgroup, establish networks and work as part of a management team.
2. Proven ability to provide strategic advice to senior management on financial and other resource matters.
3. Proven capability to manage multiple tasks, facilitate projects and deliver outputs within tight deadlines.
4. Understanding of business planning, budgeting, human resource matters, and relevant legislation.
5. Sound problem solving and information management skills and ability to present accurate written information and reports.
6. Ability to use information technology systems such as general office and accounting systems.
7. Ability to manage works programming and procurement in the region
8. Ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of Government business strategies and appreciation of the functions and purpose of the department in the region.
2. A qualification in Business, Public Administration, Management, Finance, Human Resources or equivalent.
