The Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service (DYHS) was established in 1974 and is the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health service provider in Western Australia, providing care to over 20,000 Aboriginal patients across four clinics in East Perth, Mirrabooka, Maddington and Midland. Our staff enable the delivery of culturally responsive primary health services, focusing on prevention, early intervention, comprehensive care and care coordination including chronic disease management.

About the Position

The Aboriginal FDSV Case Support Worker provides culturally safe, trauma-informed, and community-centred support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals impacted by family, domestic, and sexual violence. Operating within a bi-cultural pairs model, the role ensures a culturally responsive approach to service delivery, emphasizing the safety and well-being of clients accessing Derbarl Yerrigan Health Services. Responsibilities of the position include conducting risk assessments, creating personalized safety plans, coordinating services, and maintaining accurate records for effective case management and positive client outcomes. This will be a Maximum Term Full-time contract which expires on 30 June 2027 (with possibility of extension).

Key Responsibilities

Client Engagement & Assessment

* Conduct culturally sensitive assessments to identify the risks and needs of clients experiencing family, domestic and sexual violence.
* Collaborate with clients to develop individualised safety plans that are responsive to their cultural contexts and personal circumstances.

Case Management

* Provide proactive casework interventions, coordination of services and facilitating referrals to appropriate support agencies.
* Maintain accurate and confidential client records in accordance with organisational policies.

Cultural Support & Advocacy

* Provide cultural guidance to the FDSV team to ensure services are culturally safe and responsive, respecting the identities and needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
* Collaborate with the FDSV team as a cultural liaison during case management and other interactions, promoting appropriate engagement and understanding.

Community Engagement

* Participate in community education and outreach activities to raise awareness about FDSV and available support services.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders to enhance service delivery and client outcomes.

Team Collaboration

* Support the team in developing and implementing culturally safe practices and protocols.
* Engage in regular supervision and team meetings to reflect on practice and contribute to continuous improvement.

Administrative Support and Data Management

* Manage correspondence, schedule appointments, coordinate meetings, and maintain organised client files, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with organisational policies.
* Accurately enter and update client information in relevant databases, generating reports to support program evaluation and service improvement initiatives.

Selection Criteria

1. Qualifications:

* Certificate IV or a higher qualification in a relevant field of study.

2. Experience, Skills and Abilities:

* Minimum of 1 year of experience working in the FDSV sector, preferably within an Aboriginal community context.
* Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal cultures, kinship, and community dynamics, engaging respectfully with families.
* Proven experience supporting Aboriginal clients with complex needs related to family violence, trauma, and social determinants of health using culturally safe, trauma-informed approaches.
* Competence in basic computer applications for data entry and record-keeping.

3. Other Requirements:

* Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander pursuant to Section 50D of the Equal Employment Opportunities Act (Essential).
* Current Working with Children Check.
* Satisfactory National Police Clearance (issued within the last 6 months).
* Valid WA Drivers’ License and willingness to travel as required.
* Willingness to undergo Pre-employment Health Assessment.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and training.
