Next Start Unit Trust trading as Next Steps Accounting by delivering accurate, compliant and insightful accounting and taxation services to a diverse client base. This full-time position encompasses the full cycle of statutory reporting, financial analysis and advisory support, ensuring clients meet their regulatory obligations while gaining clear strategic insights to inform business decisions.
As a key team member, you will contribute directly to the firm's reputation for excellence and client empowerment in a growing, client-focused accounting practice. Key Responsibilities Prepared and lodged income tax returns for a broad range of entities including individuals, companies, partnerships, and trusts, ensuring full compliance with applicable Australian taxation laws and regulatory requirements.
Prepared, reviewed, and lodged Business Activity Statements (BAS), Instalment Activity Statements (IAS), and payroll tax returns, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all statutory reporting obligations. Developed periodic financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow summaries, and provided interpretative analysis to support informed business and financial decision-making. Maintained and reviewed accounting records through regular account reconciliations, identifying inconsistencies, investigating variances, and implementing corrective adjustments to ensure the integrity of financial data.
Contributed to the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts by analysing historical data, identifying trends, and supporting financial modelling to assist in forward planning and resource allocation. Analysed financial performance and key indicators, providing insights and recommendations to management regarding cost control, profitability, and operational efficiency improvements. Requirements
Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply. Bachelor degree in accounting. 2-3 years as an accountant.
Strong technical skills in Australian taxation laws, statutory reporting (BAS, IAS and payroll tax), financial reporting, account reconciliations and accounting software such as Xero and MYOB. Excellent analytical, problem-solving and attention-to-detail abilities. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly to clients and management.
