The Youth Welfare Worker plays a key role in supporting the wellbeing, engagement, and social-emotional development of students at Plenty River College. This position focuses on assisting students who may be experiencing personal, social, or educational challenges by providing guidance, support, and advocacy to ensure their holistic development and success in school.Key Responsibilities:Provide individual and group support to students facing personal, social, or educational difficulties.Develop and implement wellbeing programs that promote resilience, emotional regulation, and social skills.Work collaboratively with the Team Leader - Student Wellbeing, Assistant Principal/Curriculum Leader, teachers, education support staff, and external agencies to support students' mental health and wellbeingAdvocate for students’ needs and connect them with appropriate services, including counselling, housing, financial assistance, and healthcare.Monitor student welfare concerns and implement strategies for intervention, including case management where appropriate.Support students in developing positive relationships and managing conflict effectively.Assist in crisis intervention and respond to situations involving student distress or safety concerns.Promote student engagement by fostering a safe and inclusive school environment.Provide professional guidance to school staff on supporting students with complex needs.Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions, case notes, and referrals.Participate in school meetings, professional development, Student Support groups and community outreach programs.Positively contribute to workplace harmony by displaying cooperative team behaviour.Play an active role in contributing to an organisational culture of child safety by participating in practices that reduce the risk of child abuse; adherence to processes for responding to and reporting suspected child abuse; implementing strategies to identify and reduce or remove the risk of child abuse and providing an environment for the participation and empowerment of children.Qualifications & Experience:Relevant qualifications in Youth Work, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.Experience working with young people, particularly those from diverse backgrounds or at risk of disengagement.Understanding of trauma-informed practice and adolescent development.Desirable Attributes:Experience working within an alternative or specialist education setting.Knowledge of restorative practices and behaviour support strategies.Understanding of cultural safety and experience working with diverse student populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth and young people from refugee or migrant backgrounds.
