Enrolled Nurse

* Nursing - Community, Maternal & Child Health (Healthcare & Medical)
* Contract/Temp
* $80,000 to $83,020 per annum (pro-rata) + super.

The Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service (DYHS) was established in 1974 and is the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health service provider in Western Australia, providing care to over 20,000 Aboriginal patients across four clinics in East Perth, Mirrabooka, Maddington and Midland. Our staff enable the delivery of culturally responsive primary health services, focusing on prevention, early intervention, comprehensive care and care coordination including chronic disease management.

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Enrolled Nurse to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible to provide clinical and primary health care for Aboriginal individuals, families and community groups. Clinic nurses within Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service assist in arranging and coordinating health care in line with best practice model of care for chronic disease and ensure health assessments are provided to all DYHS clients.

Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Service Delivery

* Deliver safe, culturally appropriate nursing care in accordance with best practice standards and DYHS policies.
* Conduct triage of booked and walk-in clients and monitor client conditions, escalating concerns appropriately.
* Support Doctors and the broader clinical team with general clinic duties and coordinated care planning.
* Assist with health assessments, screening, chronic disease management, and preventative health initiatives.
* Maintain infection prevention and control standards within the clinic environment.

Collaboration & Community Engagement

* Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support integrated care.
* Liaise with internal programs, external health professionals, and community stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
* Contribute to positive client experiences through respectful, responsive communication.

Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement

* Participate in quality improvement activities and support evidence-based practice.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation and Medicare billing within scope of practice.
* Contribute to a safe workplace by adhering to Work Health and Safety requirements.

Professional Practice

* Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and accountability in all interactions.
* Participate in performance development and ongoing professional education.
* Promote a supportive team culture aligned with DYHS values and commitment to Closing the Gap outcomes.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

* Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an EN.
* Experience working with Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander People or an understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal culture.
* Demonstrated understanding of the complexity of Aboriginal Health issues.
* Experience in Chronic Disease Management of clients.
* Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.
* Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of Quality Assurance process.
* Ability to take a leadership role within a team.
* Highly developed negotiation and problems solving skills.
* Demonstrated commitment to disseminating knowledge and skills.
* Current Senior First Aid certificate.
* Willingness to undergo Drug and Alcohol testing as required by the employer.
* Knowledge of Work Health & Safety, Industrial Relations and Equal Employment Opportunity Legislation.
* Computer literacy skills.

Desirable

* Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
* Post registration qualification in a relevant area.
* Ability to perform venesection.
* Knowledge and understanding of infection control procedures.
* Willingness to participate in performance management.
* Medicare items associated with Chronic Disease Management of clients.
* An Immunisation certificate.

Appointment Pre-requisites

* Current Working with Children Check.
* Satisfactory National Police Clearance which is not older than 6 months.
* Valid WA Drivers' License.
* Willingness to undergo our Pre-Employment Health Assessment (PEHA)
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and training.
