Accountant III Job Description
This role involves performing a variety of general and statutory accounting, financial reporting and analyses for the North American property and casualty insurance division. Key responsibilities include preparing quarterly financial packages, statutory reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, analyses, journal entries, compliance filings, and working on projects.
The Accountant III will be partnering with others in the finance organization, as well as interacting with underwriting, claims, actuary, and compliance departments. This position will also work with data cubes and accounting hubs and prepare ad hoc financial analyses.
Responsibilities:
* Perform routine financial close activities such as journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial package preparation
* Perform quarterly balance sheet account reconciliations, cash reconciliations, and investigate unusual items
* Maintain accurate and detailed quarterly accrual schedules
* Ensure the accurate and timely recording and reconciliation of all intercompany activity by researching and resolving differences with other entities
* Provide support to the corporate team, as necessary
* Assist with other ad hoc responsibilities including participation in special projects, such as system implementation and/or enhancements, business integration, internal controls, and ad hoc analyses
* Assist in the preparation of GAAP and Regulatory financial statements.
Requirements
This role requires a strong understanding and application of U.S. GAAP and SOX, with statutory accounting and reinsurance background preferred. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of strong and progressive accounting experience, including experience in preparing financial statements and flux analyses.
A Bachelors degree in Accounting is required, with CPA and/or MBA preferred. Oracle ERP, Hyperion/FCCS, Smartview, and similar accounting software experience is a plus. Intermediate to advanced skill in Excel is required.
The successful candidate will be a critical thinker with ability to prepare workbooks from the ground up based on terms of contracts and/or assumptions, and to organize information for presentations. Self-starters who are proactive in looking for ways to improve, hard-working, and highly analytical are encouraged to apply.
