The Organisation
The Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) is a non-government, feminist organisation working to eliminate sexual violence against women, young people, children and men. Our Mission is to be an active, visible catalyst for social change through the provision of high-quality services within a feminist framework.
We provide confidential counselling and practical support for victim survivors of sexual violence and their families who have experienced any form of sexual assault, sexual harassment or childhood sexual abuse.
We arrange immediate crisis appointments and provide a 24-hour crisis callout service through the Forensic & Medical Sexual Assault Care (FAMSAC) and/or Sexual Assault & Child Abuse Team (SACAT) services.
Our Crisis phone support is available from 7am until 11pm, 7 days a week.
Job Summary
The Receptionist is the first point of contact for clients, visitors, and stakeholders. This role contributes significantly to creating a welcoming, trauma-informed, and professional environment for all who engage with the organisation.
The Receptionist is responsible for managing reception operations, greeting clients, coordinating appointment bookings, maintaining calendars, supporting administrative functions, and ensuring smooth daily operations across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
* Greet clients, visitors, and staff in a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive manner.
* Manage the reception area to ensure it is calm, organised, and welcoming.
* Monitor client arrivals and departures, supporting safety and confidentiality at all times.
* Handle incoming phone enquiries, directing calls appropriately and providing accurate information.
* Coordinate and manage client bookings using CRCC's scheduling systems.
* Maintain organisational calendars, staff appointment schedules, and room bookings.
* Support counsellors with appointment adjustments, cancellations, and communication.
* Ensure all bookings align with service priorities, availability, and operational requirements.
* Maintain tidy, organised shared spaces including reception, kitchen, and meeting rooms.
* Assist with incoming and outgoing mail, deliveries, and courier coordination.
* Manage office supplies, including stationery and reception materials.
* Maintain accurate, confidential records in accordance with CRCC policies.
* Assist with data entry, document preparation, and basic administrative tasks.
* Support compliance requirements (e.g., maintaining visitor logs, data checks).
* Provide administrative support to the Clinical Program Director and Clinical Team as required.
* Assist with staff meeting preparation, including printing, scanning, and collating documents.

Essential
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage warmly and professionally.
* High level of organisational and time-management skills.
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment.
* High attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and work within sensitive, trauma-informed environments.
* Experience working in front-of-house or reception roles.
* Ability to remain calm, compassionate, and professional when supporting clients in distress.
Desirable
* Prior experience in a not-for-profit, community, or health environment.
* Experience with booking systems, calendars, or scheduling software.
* Demonstrated understanding of compliance and administrative processes.
* Qualifications such as Certificate IV in Business/Office Administration or above.
Special Conditions
This is a woman-only position under s of the Discrimination ACT (1991) and is a genuine occupational qualification for the position.
Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) ACT (2011) legislation requires that the preferred applicant will be required to hold a current and valid 'Working with Vulnerable People' registration as proof of suitable employment screening and background checks.
