Base Salary Level C/D $156,103 p.a. - $207,069 p.a. + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
The Discipline of Government and International Relations at the University of Sydney is advertising a continuing teaching and research position, to be appointed at the level of either Senior Lecturer (Level C) or Associate Professor (Level D). Applicants with expertise in Indigenous Australian politics will be highly regarded, but this is not a requirement.
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) is driven by academic rigour, intellectual curiosity and social inclusion. The School of Social and Political Sciences focuses on five research themes: health, markets, governance, inequality and environment.
Responsibilities
* Teach units within the Bachelor of Arts (Politics Major)
* Teach units within the Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (BPPE) program, including postgraduate units if applicable
* Conduct research in Australian politics; expertise in political theory, comparative politics and related fields is highly desirable
* Mentor and supervise higher‐degree research (HDR) students
* Contribute to educational and research leadership, governance and curriculum development within the Discipline and SSPS
Qualifications (Senior Lecturer)
* PhD in Australian politics or a cognate field
* Demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
* Demonstrated leadership in educational innovation, curriculum design and review
* Ability to teach core and selective units of study in the Politics undergraduate major and in the BPPE program
* High‐quality research agenda in Australian politics and an additional area, ideally including political theory, environmental politics and/or comparative politics
Qualifications (Associate Professor)
* All Senior Lecturer qualifications
* Demonstrated capacity to provide academic service, governance and engagement activities
* Capacity to attract nationally competitive research funding, particularly from the Australian Research Council (Category 1) and other national or industry sources
* Leadership in curriculum development that enhances student learning in the discipline curriculum
* Success in supervising and/or mentoring others, including honours students, to achieve career progression or professional advancement
* Established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions that can enhance the standing of education in the School, Faculty and University
