Our Company
PanAust Limited is an Australian-headquartered copper and gold mining company with operations in Laos, and pre-development assets in Papua New Guinea and Chile.
In Papua New Gui nea, PanAust holds a 100 per cent interest in the Frieda River Limited Copper-Gold project, which is a transformative pre-development integrated mining, renewable energy and infrastructure project. The complete Frieda River Project represents a nation building opportunity for Papua New Guinea and a transformative sustainable development opportunity for the Sepik region. The Project will help build stronger and more viable communities by establishing necessary public infrastructure, generating skilled employment, and creating business opportunities for local people.
InLaos, PanAust owns a 90 per cent interest in Phu Bia Mining Limited with the Government of Laos owning the remaining 10 per cent. Phu Bia Mining owns and operates PanAust's two award winning operations – Phu Kham Copper-Gold and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver, both located in Xaisomboun Province, 120km north of Vientiane.
In Chile, PanAust holds a 66 per cent interest in the Inca de Oro Copper-Gold Project through a Chilean incorporated joint venture company, Inca de Oro S. A.
The Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Chief Financial Officer to join our team, Brisbane-based with frequent travel to Papua New Guinea. Reporting to Project Director- Frieda River, the role will drive the financial and strategic direction of Frieda River Limited including securing and structuring project financing, engaging with capital markets and negotiating commercial agreements with government entities and other strategic investors.
Key Responsibilities Include:
* Provide financial leadership and strategic direction to support the company's growth and investment objectives
* Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with the company's business plan and capital market activities
* Ensure financial compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements, particularly within joint venture and/or listed environments
* Identify, structure, and implement diverse funding instruments for large-scale mining and/or infrastructure projects
* Oversee the company's capital-raising activities, including debt, equity, and hybrid financing solutions
* Lead financial structuring and negotiations for the Company
* Negotiate and structure commercial agreements with State Governments and State-Owned Enterprises
* Lead market engagement processes to identify and secure strategic equity partners
* Manage financial due diligence, investment analysis, and risk assessments for joint ventures and other strategic partnerships
* Drive processes to secure optimised project finance arrangements, ensuring alignment with business objectives
* Oversee financial modelling, valuation analysis, and investment structuring for major infrastructure and mining projects
* Collaborate with external stakeholders, including investment banks, institutional investors, and legal advisors, to structure large-scale project financings
* Ensure robust financial governance, risk management, and internal controls across operations, plus international financial reporting and compliance obligations
* Provide financial insights and reporting to the Board of Directors and executive leadership team
* Lead and develop the finance team to ensure excellence in financial management and strategic execution
* Represent the company in investor relations activities, market engagements, and regulatory discussions
* Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, financial institutions, and industry partners
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates who:
* Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA or CPA/CA/CFA preferred
* Master's in Finance or Economics is highly desirable
* Proven experience as a CFO or a similar senior financial leadership role
* Proven track record of leading strategic investment initiatives with exposure to and strong knowledge of IPO's and M&A is highly desirable
* Strong understanding of financial regulations and compliance
* Exceptional financial modelling and analytical skills or ability to interpret
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities
* Strategic thinker with a track record of driving financial success
* Strong leadership and team management skills
