Details: Using a partnership approach, the Justice Transformation and Community Safety Branch provides high-level strategic policy advice on community safety reform initiatives. This includes addressing the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the justice system, supporting reforms arising from the Board of Inquiry into deaths in custody at the Alexander Maconochie Centre, electronic monitoring, and contributing to the management of the ACT Policing Arrangement and Purchase Agreement negotiations.
We are seeking applications from motivated and capable individuals to fill a Policy Officer (ASO5) role. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful and contemporary justice reform work that delivers positive outcomes for the ACT community.
Working closely with the Director, Senior Policy Officers and other members of the branch, the Policy Officer will support the development and implementation of evidence-based justice policy and programs. The role involves contributing to research and analysis, preparing briefs and correspondence, providing secretariat support, supporting governance and oversight processes, and engaging with a range of stakeholders across government and the community.
This role is well suited to candidates with an interest in justice and community safety policy who are keen to build their experience in a fast-paced, collaborative policy environment. While experience or qualifications in areas such as criminology, social policy, law or program delivery are desirable, they are not essential. The successful applicant will demonstrate strong communication skills, sound judgement, attention to detail and a willingness to learn.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements:
* Relevant tertiary qualifications or experience in social science, justice, criminology, law or a related field is desirable, but not essential.
* Experience in developing and managing programs is desirable.
Note: This is a temporary position available immediately until July with the possibility of extension up to six months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
