Role Overview
The Senior Storage Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the design, deployment, operation, optimisation and ongoing support of enterprise storage and data protection platforms within a large, complex government ICT environment.
The role sits within the ICT Networks & Infrastructure Platforms section of the ICT Operations Branch and contributes to the delivery of secure, resilient and high‐performing infrastructure services to departmental staff and Ministers' Offices.
This position requires hands‐on technical expertise, strong documentation skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with infrastructure, operations, security and application teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design, deploy, configure, manage, tune and troubleshoot enterprise storage systems across physical and virtual environments
2. Administer and support storage platforms including:
3. HPE 3PAR, Primera and Alletra
4. NetApp E‐Series
5. Dell Data Domain
6. Scality Artesca object storage
7. Design, configure and manage Brocade SAN fabrics, including zoning, performance optimisation and fault resolution
8. Use SANnav to monitor, analyse and optimise SAN environments
9. Support enterprise backup and recovery solutions using Veeam Backup & Replication, ensuring data protection, recovery objectives and restore integrity
10. Produce and maintain high‐quality architecture designs, build documentation, operational procedures and runbooks
11. Participate in infrastructure uplift projects, storage refresh activities and platform modernisation initiatives
12. Provide after‐hours on‐call support as part of the infrastructure operations roster
13. Mentor junior engineers and actively contribute to knowledge sharing within the team
14. Engage with technical and non‐technical stakeholders to communicate designs, risks and operational impacts
Required Skills and Experience
15. Extensive experience designing and managing enterprise storage solutions in large, complex ICT environments
16. Strong hands‐on expertise with SAN technologies and Fibre Channel‐based storage environments
17. Proven experience producing clear, structured technical documentation for operational and support purposes
18. Demonstrated experience with enterprise backup and recovery platforms, particularly Veeam Backup & Replication
19. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present technical information to stakeholders
20. Ability to work collaboratively in multi‐disciplinary technical teams
