Job Description Stretching from the Pilbara Region in the south to the Northern Territory border in the east, the Kimberley Region manages over 3,800,000 hectares of land and water on behalf of the Western Australian community. Visitor highlights include Purnululu, Windjana Gorge, Geikie Gorge and Tunnel Creek national parks, as well as world class marine-based experiences including Horizontal Falls and Montgomery Reef.
The region has two major work centres: one in Broome which accommodates the regional office and West Kimberley District; the other in Kununurra (East Kimberley District).
We currently have an opportunity for an Operations Manager - Marine Parks to join our team.
Responsibilities
* Leading and implementing key marine priorities and marine works programs, determining standards and ensuring all activities are compatible with departmental and service objectives and management responsibilities.
* Leading and managing staff and ensuring a close liaison and working relationship occurs across district and regional staff and specialist branches, to provide for an integrated and effective delivery of services; including the Kimberley vessel team.
* Responsible for internal and external liaison with joint management partners, stakeholders and the community with regard to the district's service programs.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following five (5) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than five (5) pages in total.
* Substantial experience in natural resource management including environmental, recreational, and reserve management, and having an understanding of the threats to biodiversity and cultural values, with a primary responsibility for the West Kimberley District marine parks.
* Considerable experience of high-level leadership, supervisory, organisational, works program planning, and human resource management skills; including a demonstrated ability to promote staff development, deal with contentious issues and improve performance, empowering staff to achieve agreed outcomes.
* Evidence of high-level oral communication and interpersonal skills, and experience in effective liaison and negotiation with other government agencies, industry, stakeholders, and community interest groups, and the media.
* Considerable experience in and knowledge of administrative and financial management, including budget preparation and expenditure control.
* Ability and willingness to work with Traditional Owners to promote Aboriginal involvement in the workforce and participate in Joint Management Body and Native Title negotiations with a preference for someone with demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal people and having an awareness of their culture.
