People & Culture Manager (8 Month Parental Leave Cover)
Part-time 0.6 FTE (3 days), Fixed-term from June 2025 to February 2026
About us
We spend a third of our lives sleeping, so we thought we’d make it memorable. Sheet Society was dreamed up by Hayley and Andy Worley in 2017 after they thought the industry had hit snooze. Passionate about high quality, trend-led products with a focus on exceptional customer experiences, innovation and sustainability, Sheet Society is designed to elevate your bedroom aesthetic while ensuring a better night’s sleep. One of the fastest growing retail businesses in Australia, with exciting expansion plans on the horizon, our team is hardworking, passionate and customer obsessed.
About the role
We value our culture at Sheet Society, and this role is all about ensuring it remains the best place our team has ever worked. As the caretaker of our People & Culture function, you’ll champion our values, nurture engagement, and create an environment where everyone feels they belong—supported to do their best work and be their best selves.
Day-to-day, you’ll navigate a diverse mix of challenges that require multitasking, attention to detail, and the ability to switch between priorities, while working to deadlines. Reporting directly to the Finance Director and managing the People and Culture Coordinator, you’ll take ownership of the People & Culture function, ensuring it continues to support and enhance our culture across every part of the business.
During this maternity leave contract, you’ll ensure our values—Good Humans, Driven Dreamers, Authentic Achievers, and Support Crew—are at the core of everything we do. From recruitment and development to communication and engagement, you’ll build a positive environment where our team members feel valued, motivated, and connected.
What You’ll Do
As the caretaker of our culture, you’ll ensure that our values are lived daily, shaping an environment where our team feels motivated, supported, and genuinely connected. Your responsibilities will include:
* Foster Culture & Engagement: Champion our values by embedding them into daily practices, decision-making, and team interactions. Build initiatives that strengthen team connections, create a sense of belonging, and enhance engagement across HQ, Warehome, and Retail stores.
* Manage the Employee Lifecycle: Oversee all stages from recruitment and onboarding to offboarding and succession planning. Facilitate remuneration reviews and ensure accurate payroll processing in collaboration with the Finance team.
* Drive Learning & Development: Develop a culture of continuous growth through tailored training programs, coaching, and development opportunities that empower individuals and teams to reach their full potential.
* Ensure Compliance & Best Practice: Manage contracts, payroll, and performance processes while ensuring compliance with Fair Work Act legislation. Maintain accurate records and stay up to date with HR trends.
* Develop Policies & Plan Ahead: Create, improve, and implement employment policies that support our strategic goals and reflect our commitment to fairness and inclusivity. Plan for the future workforce needs to ensure team structure and capabilities align with our business objectives.
* Enhance Communication & Events: Lead Monthly Town Hall sessions, celebrate milestones like anniversaries and birthdays, and organise events that genuinely add value to our team’s experience.
* Optimise Systems & Office Management: Maintain and enhance People systems (like BambooHR), implement efficient processes using tools like Google Workspace, Slack, and Asana, and ensure our office environment supports productivity and wellbeing.
* Promote Health, Safety & Wellbeing: Ensure safe working conditions across HQ, Warehome, and Retail stores. Promote employee wellbeing through initiatives and two paid wellness days per year.
About You
You are a People & Culture leader who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment. You understand that a great culture doesn’t happen by accident—it’s actively nurtured and protected. You bring:
* At least 5 years of experience in a senior People & Culture role, ideally within retail or founder-led environments.
* Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation, HR best practices, and workplace health and safety standards.
* Proven ability to drive engagement, performance, and development across a diverse workforce.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
* The ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the business.
* A collaborative and adaptable approach to managing changing priorities.
* Experience with BambooHR, Deputy Rostering, Google Workspace, and Asana will be highly regarded.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
At Sheet Society, we’re committed to creating a workplace that’s as enjoyable and fulfilling as our products. You’ll enjoy:
* Sweet Dreams Day: A paid day off on your birthday.
* A Fun Social Calendar: Featuring Friday Jolly-Trolly celebrations.
* Generous Staff Discounts: Because we love our products, and we want you to love them too.
* A Dog-Friendly Office: Bring your furry friend to work.
* A Paid Wellness Day: Supporting your health and wellbeing.
We're looking for someone who can genuinely caretake this role—supporting our people, championing our values, and enhancing what makes our culture special. This maternity leave cover is about actively building on what’s already great—creating an environment where everyone feels connected, supported, and empowered to do their best work.
If you’re ready to take ownership of this role and leave a lasting, positive impact, we’d love to hear from you. Please apply with your resume and a cover letter detailing why you’re the right fit to caretake our culture during this period.
