WHS & HR Compliance Officer – Full Time

Waste Management & Environmental Services

We’re a rapidly expanding waste management business with a modern fleet of trucks and trailers, predominantly servicing Tier 1 waste companies. Our landfill gas well installations projects for major landfill sites are gearing up to move interstate. We’re looking for an exceptional WHS & HR Compliance Officer who genuinely knows their stuff and isn’t afraid to step up, speak up, and lead from the front.

This role is for someone who is a true WHS all-rounder, sharp on legislation, confident in high-risk environments, and capable of managing the HR function (excluding payroll) with professionalism and precision.

About the Role

You’ll take ownership of our WHS and HR Compliance functions, ensuring the business remains compliant, safe, and always doing the right thing. You’ll work closely with management, site teams, and office staff, and you’ll have the autonomy to run your area properly.

This is a hands-on role that requires someone confident enough to have hard conversations when needed and back themselves with knowledge, experience, and solid documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Work Health & Safety

* Manage and maintain WHS systems across a waste management and landfill environment

* Develop, review, and implement:

o SWMS

o SOPs

o Risk Assessments

o JSEAs

* Stay on top of changing WHS legislation, including interstate requirements as the business expands

* Conduct site visits and safety inspections

* Lead incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions

* Deliver and manage staff inductions and safety training (training provided where needed)

* Maintain exceptional records and compliance documentation

* Ensure best-practice reporting and continuous improvement

Human Resources (No Payroll)

* Manage HR processes including onboarding, policies, procedures, and employee relations

* Confidently handle performance, compliance, and sensitive conversations

* Ensure HR practices align with legislation and company values

* Utilise Bright Safe and Bright HR software effectively

What We’re Looking For

* Proven WHS experience in the waste management industry (essential)

* Strong understanding of high-risk environments and operational safety

* Highly competent in safety documentation and systems

* Comfortable working across multiple sites and business facets

* Confident, assertive communicator — not afraid of tough conversations

* Exceptionally organised with strong attention to detail

* Tech-savvy and confident using WHS/HR platforms

* White Card Essential

* Someone who can take ownership, work efficiently, and genuinely make improvements
