We are seeking to establish a pool of energetic, motivated, and aspirational Early Childhood Teachers specialising in Deaf Education for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Note: This position is being advertised as part of a recruitment pilot designed to simplify the application process for teachers. A mandatory CV template is provided for use. The remaining AITSL domain will be assessed as part of the further assessment stage, for shortlisted applicants only. The School School Of Special Educational Needs: Sensory (SSEN: S) provides educational support for children with hearing loss, vision impairment or dual sensory loss from birth to completion of school. SSEN: S is based at the Statewide Services Centre in Padbury and supports children in both public and non-government schools throughout Western Australia. SSEN: S operates the Deaf Education and Vision Education programs to support eligible children, their schools and families. Within these programs, SSEN: S supports young children from birth to completion of school with the SSEN: S Early Childhood Service (0-4 years) or in their local schools with the Visiting Teacher Service. SSEN:S employs teachers with specialist skills and other specialist staff such as educational audiologists, school psychologists, braille transcribers, Deaf education officers and educational interpreters. Teachers in the Early Childhood Service deliver targeted learning programs based on the St Gabriel’s Curriculum, including areas such as Language and Communication, Cognition, Audiology and Speech. Visiting Teachers deliver targeted learning programs based on the Expanded Core Curriculum including areas such as Audiology, Language and Communication, Functional Skills for Curriculum Access and Social and Emotional Skills. Additionally, Visiting Teachers provide consulting support to schools and agencies in the provision of appropriate teaching and learning adjustments. For more information about the School of Special Educational Needs: Sensory, and our diverse role in supporting students with vision impairment, hearing loss or dual sensory loss, please press the play button below. > The Role Suitable applicants will ideally display a sound understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum, and the Early Years Learning Framework, and best classroom practices to cater for the needs of individual students with a sensory disability. Additionally, a sound knowledge of developing and implementing personalised learning plans, assessment tools and reporting to parents and schools in a timely manner is highly desirable. As our service encompasses children from birth (or point of diagnosis) to the start of Pre-primary, we are seeking teachers with experience in working with young children and their families. We are seeking applicants who are willing to undertake regular professional development and who are interested in expanding their professional knowledge. It is highly desirable that applicants for all Teacher of the Deaf positions hold a Master’s degree majoring in Deaf/Hard of Hearing or similar or are working towards this qualification. Suitable applicants without a Master’s degree with specialisation in Deaf/Hard of Hearing or similar, may be required to undertake relevant tertiary studies. Suitable applicants may be required to complete an Auslan program either by distance education or an in-house program upon appointment to a position within SSEN: S. The role may involve extensive state-wide travel with overnight stays including flights and/or long distance driving, some of which may be in remote locations. Suitable applicants may be required to hold a current and valid ‘C' class driver’s licence. Travel may involve the use of the employee’s own motor vehicle which must be registered, insured and in safe working order.
