Operations Manager

Frontier Helicopters is a Kimberley-based aerial service provider supporting government, resource, emergency services, and commercial clients across Northern Australia. Operating in remote and regional locations, we deliver time-critical helicopter services in complex and challenging environments.
The Role
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Operations Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of operations across multiple bases. This role is suited to a calm, practical, and solutions-focused professional who thrives in high-tempo environments, takes a hands-on approach to operational leadership, and demonstrates a strong commitment to safety, professionalism, and accountability.
This position can be based in Kununurra, Broome, or Derby, with regular regional travel and remote work required.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Resource Coordination
* Coordinate daily helicopter operations across multiple locations, monitoring and resolving operational constraints in real time.
* Plan, allocate, and manage aircraft, crew, equipment, and logistics resources, including scheduling aligned with maintenance requirements.
* Oversee mobilisation and demobilisation of remote and regional projects.
* Manage phones, emails, and operational scheduling in a fluid environment, maintaining flexibility to respond to changing priorities.
* Liaise closely with base managers, pilots, and maintenance teams to ensure aircraft readiness and effective delivery against client requirements.
* Manage resource allocation across all sites to optimise efficiency and minimise downtime.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
* Uphold and actively manage the Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring hazards, incidents, and risks are appropriately identified, reported, and addressed.
* Promote and lead a strong safety culture through visible leadership and consistent operational standards.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant aviation legislation, regulatory requirements, company policies, and operational procedures.
* Participate in risk assessments, safety planning, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Leadership & Team Development
* Lead, motivate, and develop operational teams across multiple locations, promoting a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
* Encourage professionalism, collaboration, and clear communication across all operational functions.
* Remain composed and decisive under pressure, providing clear direction during operational challenges or emergencies.
Clients & Business Support
* Act as a primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders.
* Oversee the planning and delivery of complex operational projects and initiatives.
* Contribute operational expertise to tenders, proposals, and business growth initiatives.
Experience & Capability
Essential:
* Proven experience managing operations, logistics, or field activities in complex and regulated environments.
* Strong coordination, decision-making, and problem-solving capability under pressure.
* Working knowledge of safety management systems, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
* Confident communicator able to engage effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
* Proficiency with scheduling, tracking, and operational management systems.
Desirable:
* Experience in aviation operations, ideally within helicopter or related industries.
* Experience leading teams across remote or regional locations in WA or the Northern Territory.
* Background in HSE-critical industries such as aviation, resources, emergency services, transport, or defence.
* Knowledge of aviation safety standards and regulatory environments.
